Long Mynd Rides 27th March
« on: 14 March, 2010, 01:05:28 pm »
My friends and I are riding this event (100k version) for the first time  and it looks quite 'scenic'.

Anybody here taking part, or have ridden it in previous years?

I'm not able to do it this year, but it's a fantastic ride! Really good route and well organised.

You're right about the scenic nature of it though. I seem to remember a particularly long slog over towards Clun. Asterton Bank has to be seen to be believed and goes down as one of my all time most epic climbs.

Definitely a really good event and well worth doing.

The wife and I rode the 1000 and 2000 respectively last year.   Both of us enjoyed it immensely.  You will obviously be aware that the route is quite hilly with nastiest climb being the ascent up the Burway.  But the views and scenary are worth it.

The route also contained the most curious information control I have ever come across.  Perhaps this is giving the game away but it was a bar-code printed on the side of rusting old 2CV.

Rode it two years ago in heavy rain.  Finished with a lot more grey hairs on me head after riding with ceramic rims which means no brakes on the descents.

Also gale force cross winds on the top of the Mynd and nearly getting blown over the side near the top of the Burway.

Tis a great ride.  Great scenery, nice quiet route, a healthy amount of climbing without being silly about it.
But I'm too ill this year to make it  >:(.

This event certainly supplied more hills than I expected.

Loverly ride with fantastic views.  Some of the decents were a bit hairy though, I cam a cropper decending into Sarn.  Shorts are ok & the bike landed nice & softly on top of me  ;D
