My bike isn't dead any more
« on: 24 December, 2011, 12:45:11 pm »
It was dead but...

A nice man up north welded it up again. I fitted 1x9 gearing on it.  First test ride this morning, loverly. It is Sooooo comfy

This is my custom Ti bike that I used for PBP 2007 and the Mille Cymru

vorsprung, are you at liberty to divulge the identity of your "nice man up north"? My dead ti frame has been languishing at Big Al's for about 6 months now. He said he know someone who could fix it, but, well, that was 6 months ago!  :-\
Any idea of cost would be welcome too.
Thanks.
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

Vorsprung, how badly broken was your bike?

Brilliant if it works and you had nothing to loose.  Did the repairer warranty it? You have to admit, that is one ugly bit of welding :o

Would it be wrong of me, were it my frame, to want to take a file to some of that welding?
Just asking like, those of you with experience of Argoshield welding out there....

EDIT: I'm intrigued by the close-up on Vorsprung's blog, where the welder has avoided cooking the original (judging by the wear n' tear damage which is evident) sticker at the top of the seat tube - which suggests very localised heat and / or thermal damming of the rest of the tube(s). I know >.< that much about welding.
