Camping in France with electrickery
« on: 01 March, 2012, 12:03:03 pm »
We have booked up for the Tandem Club Internation in French land and the pitches come with 10A electrickery.  What connector is this likely to be presented on?  It could be either a domestic type 2 pin (with earth) or a BS4343/Cee form/Commando 16A blue or something else?

Thanks

When we used a camper in the past it used to be a standard continental 2-pin job (like the indoor plugs), but that was about 12 years ago so it may have changed

5 years ago we found a mix of 2 pin continental and 3 pin like you find over here, a converter is probably a good buy:

along with polarity tester to stop blowing things up if the 2 pin is the wrong way round:

We go to France every year and it's mostly three pin connections these days.
However,  there are still some that use two pins, most of which have a supply of adapters available but I wouldn't rely on this.

The French are awkward. Some have blue 16A Euro connectors but others have round 2 pin plugs and sockets. Unfortunately they're not the same as in Germany, Holland, Belgium but have an earth pin that sticks out in the socket so your plug must have a corresponding hole for the earth pin.
