Semaine Federale Videos

I got round to editing the Semaine Federale footage, I'm still experimenting to see how much the various compressions in the cameras, editing and streaming all affect the result. http://www.youtube.com/v/wmu6-WvS3d0&rel=1 and the hi-def works better on Vimeo http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=1850533&server=vimeo.com&fullscreen=1&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=01AAEA

Great little movie. The terrain seemed perfect for fixed riding! As for the catering, well Damon, this is France!!

I was very impressed by how French it was, having got to Saumur via a Formula 1 hotel near Calais and the outskirts of Rouen and Le Mans, you can start to feel that you are part of an interchangeable assembly of Motorways and giant sheds. To be part of the highly organised volunteer structure of French cycling was a real eye-opener, it certainly showed me how PBP gets done so well. I'd recommend the Sem Fed to anyone considering PBP as it provides a degree of cultural immersion which makes PBP less bewildering. The high point of my week was tasting Saumur wines in a ride-in 'Cave' while discussing the different experiences of Admiral Gensoul at Mers-El-Kebir and Admiral Godfroy at Alexandria in July 1940. The only problem for fixed would have been some narrow and poorly surfaced 'cotes' up from the river Loire. Next year the Sem Fed is in the Nord/Pas de Calais so there will be the same sort of terrain, with less wine but more beer.

I think that the ? at the end of your link has broken it. But yes we had a picnic there, but we didn't see any horses, we concentrated on riding the bikes and socialising. The Permanence was at the parade ground of the Cavalry headquarters in Saumur.

Great stuff Damon - after a very cold and wet ride home from work tonight (the first one when lights and gloves were mandatory) that brought back some sunny memories of a great week in Saumur.

As a S.F. first timer this year I'd echo your recommendation, it was simply fantastic.

I could be tempted next year, if I can sort transport:
SEMAINE FEDERALE EN REGION NORD PAS-DE-CALAIS du 2 au 9 AOUT 2009

How does the registration etc. work?
