Large offset seat post (~40mm offset)
« on: 27 May, 2015, 01:05:59 pm »
Hi,

I'm looking for a 27.2mm seatpost with ~40mm offset to allow the saddle to be positioned further back.  Any recommendations please?

Thanks.

Nitto do a 50mm layback and do a search for humpert as one of the German retailers had something with 50mm offset.

And the VO one

found the humpert one

Back in the day, there were a few others - titec hellbent, Ritchey and Easton, however these are no longer made and ebay would be your best bet.

I've been looking for something similar recently, and the VO post seems to be out of stock everywhere, including at the manufacturer. The Nitto post is still available, but at the best part of £100 it's not exactly cheap, and from what I read it's not got any more useable setback than the VO due to the clamp size. SJS sell something called the VK adapter which clamps on top of your seatpost, but that got mixed reviews over on the CTC forum; depending on your existing seatpost and saddle rails it may require more or less extensive modification to work. It's only about £22 tho. If you do find a good and reasonably-priced solution, let us know!

Thanks for the reply's, I've still not found anything I can buy for a sensible price.  I saw the VK adapter but I don't like the design and is not a particually cheap solution (also on a tandem the stoker bars would be too low).  Long femurs are apparently not fashionable

A minor point, but when I went for a bike fit last year, I had various chats with the fitter, and although not relevant to my own fit, he did say that the whole length of the saddle rail can be utilised for clamping - i.e. you can clamp as far forward as your clamp will fit and be safe. Most folks generally try and clamp pretty centrally apparently (I know I do - but I'm a bit OCD about symmetry!)

Since the invent of vertical rear dropouts, there has been less need for 75, 76 and 77 degree seat tubes to enable 'tight' frames with parallel ( Horizontal ) dropouts.

Thus the lower need for seatposts with large offsets to get the hips in the correct position for the B/B.

Thanks for the replies.  I've ordered a pair of these...

... hopefully 35mm offset will be sufficient, the other options were beyond our budget.
