Vivian Maier, an outstanding photographic find.

Over 100,000 negatives found. All shot in her free time by an amateur photographer.
If the exhibit ever comes over here I'm there like a shot.

Thanks for posting this Clanders. There's some absolutely stunningly posed photos. Excellent stuff.
Certainly never seen cycling south of Sussex

As somebody who is just getting interested in street photography, I found this absolutely fascinating. What a wonderful story - Mary Poppins turns out to be another Cartier-Bresson  :o

Thank you very much. I really hope her work is published - I would love to buy the book.

PS it seems that there will be a book this autumn, and a film about her next year  :)

I just watched the documentary and it's extraordinary.

A must-see for anyone remotely interested in photography, specifically street photography.

There's nowt as queer as folk but she had an eye for an image for sure.

LEE - thanks for highlighting that film. I was aware of the discovery and attempts to make it public, but some of the darker aspects later in her life where quite chilling. Some great photos which I shall explore further.

Unfortunatey the lawyers appear to have taken an interest in Vivian's work I imagine John Maloof is a little pigged off after all his hard work over the years .

Yebbut the Lawyer is doing it for the best intentions, not for any money, but because the "case is so interesting".

Damn he sounds like a lovely lawyer.

I went to see a small exhibition of her work in London today.

I then tried to recreate the feeling of some of her photos in a sort of ironic way (even to the extent of shooting near waist-level...if you look closely)

The one below I'm really pleased with and may have printed.

FYI.  The Prints, signed by the finder of the treasure trove, John Maloof, are in numbered runs of 15.

That means each negative, from a find of around 10,000 in total, is potentially worth around £30,000 - £60,000 (Prices starting at £2,000 a print).

It's a huge find for sure.

My work here is done.

I've become obsessed with street photography now.  It goes completely against my nature to attempt it but I'm going to give it a go because I have 2 more picture frames to fill in exactly this Vivian Maier format I saw at the gallery (12" x 12" in rectangular frame).

The bloke who cut the Matte (card mount) for me said he'd never considered a square print mounted like this but he liked it.

The frames were a damn lucky find at The Range (£5.99 each).

I think it's as good a match as I'm likely to find for my tribute.

An original hung in the gallery

My finished tribute

Printed by DS Colour Labs (and stunningly well printed on their "museum" paper for £8).  The whole exercise cost me about £20.

DS is my go-to printer as well. They're awfully good.

Beware the lure of street photography - it's *very* addictive...
