700 x25c schwalbe tyres
« on: 21 December, 2009, 01:24:34 pm »
Cotic Road Rat is hopefully arriving in the new year and I feel the need to upgrade the tyres already. I think I've had 2 punctures in 5 years of commuting so have great faith in them [marathon plus]

However I can't find them down to 700x25c. What's the choice at this size for bomb proof jobs? Nothing leaps out on Wiggle or SJS.
A shitter and a giggler.

Stick with M+.  They are made in 700x25, so someone should have them or be able to order them.

Cheers gus. How did I miss that on SJS? Hopefully a step up from the Bontrager that come with it.

Actually a closer look on SJS found these:

Look likes a more grippy version than Durano.

The Durano Plus is a different model from the M+ and its puncture resistant layer is not as thick.  This, and the fact it's slicker, could make it faster, though.

That's not a Marathon PLUS - does not have the special layer.

Tread cut-outs make no difference to grip on tarmac to bicycles.

The Durano plus is billed as a "racing" tyre and it is, in my experience, a faster ride than the M+. Not as fairy resistant and almost half the weight.
I have M+ 622x25 on my summer commuter, Durano+ (used to be called Stelvio+) on the Audax and sport bikes.

Evans cycles show Marathon + in 25mm too. I have some Evans vouchers that I intend to use on a set of those.

We got our Marathon Plus 25cs at Bikeplus.  Not sure if they have them on the website.  They were £21 ea. :)
Getting there...
