Asymmetric tyres - WTF?
« on: 14 March, 2010, 04:01:49 pm »
A clubmate was out on his new Trek Madone this morning, and his tyres were the subject of much discussion! At first glance they looked like standard Bontrager dual-compound things in black and white. But there was no white side compound on one side, it was black from the central strip to the bead. Nobody could work out what the justification for such a silly gimmick could be. If they were different compounds, what if somebody put them on the wrong way (the white side was on the drive side as it happened), fell off and sued?

I'd guess they're unidirectional tyres in any case, so if the white was on the wrong side, the tread and construction would be also be back to front.
