FrankenFixie needs a chainring
« on: 08 August, 2010, 04:48:22 pm »
I'm in the process of renewing the worn out drivetrain.  I think* that I need an 86BCD 5 bolt 34 tooth chainring.   I'll stop at the LBS tomorrow, but are there any recommendations for on-line shops or do you have a spare?

I also need a 13 tooth sprocket.

If you've not changed the spider, it's a Stronglight 80/100/Escape triple middle ring.  Spa have the 32, but not the 34. Don't try 36, it won't clear the chainstay.

You should be able to find a 13T track sprocket very easily.

Ta.  Found several options for the sprocket, but was struggling with the chainring.   The spider is the one it came with, and I had no intention of going above 34t ;)

Where to get a 34 tooth?

Surly do a s/s one in many different BCDs.  I found one to be rather noisy on 1/8" chain though.

Some bizarre, huge, weighty thing I got from Blah.  It was too short for any other bike but that one.

The chainring's going to be 3/32; can't remember what the sprocket is, but if you're anyway changing that you could go for either a 3/32 or 1/8 chain.  Anything will do;  I've used all sorts of chains on that bike over the years.

ta.  Chain "seemed" ok, so I was planning on trying just to change the rings.

Yes I know that's bad practice, but I'm sure *that* chain's done more damage to the rings than its suffered itself ;)

I suspect strongly that that may be so :)
