URGENT plea for French translation help!

"en cabale"

Not en cavale, which I think is 'on the run.' 

Cabale is given as 'conspiracy' in the dictionary which sort of makes sense.

It's part of a news article and it says {Name} en cabale.  It looks like a sentence 'snippet' in the way that newspapers do, a sort of subheading half way through.

Any ideas?

my guess would be 'in a criminal conspiracy' so:
"Sarkozy en cabal" as a subheading - would equate to 'Carla's hubby is in a conspiracy with some bad guys'

It probably means that he has used underhand techniques to discredit somebody. Probably something to do with Dominique Villepin.

Thus I would interpret the phrase "en cabale" to mean something along the lines of "in collusion" (probably a bad collusion, rather than a good one such as eggs and flour colluding to make cake!!)

Now I'm on my own time as opposed to the taxpayers, I have access to my  Dictionnaire des Synonymes (which I would recommend to any student of French to back up their dictionary) I find the following:
cabale n. I. fig. et lit.  Une cabale montee contre un auteur > complot, conjuration, conspiration, intrigue.

So, my earlier hunch seems to have been right - and conspiracy seems to be the closest english meaning.
