How do you spell that anyway?
Anyone done one? Who with and how was it?

There is more than one company/club/group who organise such a tour, often called the "Raid Pyreneen" one is Bike Adventures, I have just ridden accross the Pyrenees on their Bordeaux to Barcelona tour which of course uses a different route accross the Pyrenees to the "Raid Pyreneen" tour, I wrote an account of it "click for link" that may also be of interest.

"How do you spell that anyway"; well I have seen it spelt 'Pyrenees' and 'Pyreneen' although I noted that spell checker tried to amend the latter to Pyrenean

Pyrenees is the noun, Pyreneen is the adjective in French, Pyrenean is the adjective in English. :)

Oh yes, I'd forgotten about Bike Adventures.
I don't think I'm nearly fast enough to do the proper Raid in the time limit allowed, but I'd like to do that general sort of route in a more sensible sort of time frame :)

There are 2 versions of the "proper" raid.  The sportif which allows 100 hours and goes over 18 cols, and the cyclo-touriste version that allows 10 days and goes over 28 cols.  The distance for each is pretty much the same.

The tourist version tends to get forgotten because I suppose so many people ride the supported rides that use the sportif.  It does however make a very nice tour, although no good to you because you have specified supported.

The tourist doesn't just fill in a load of minor cols, there are some major ones as well.  As I recall the Marie Blanc was not in the sportif, and as I remember that is a pig approaching from the west.  Not high, but the road goes straight up.

So how about considering the raid as a tour?

GIT!  :P  In my defence I had just spent 4 hours with my friend's terrible two year old and I was feeling a bit tired and emotional.

Yes to the tour, but no to the carrying luggage!  :o
Don't get Pingu started, he'll be wanting to do it cycle camping next.  ::-)

Where does one get the route for the 'sportif' version?  I've got some relatives who live in the eastern side of the pyrenees and am lookin at combining a family break with some extended riding....
