Best lacquer for aluminium?
« on: 23 August, 2008, 11:26:07 pm »
I have some very polished cranks here (after a lot of hard work with wet 'n' dry and T-Cut) and would like to keep them safe from the ravages of winter salt.  Any recommendations?  Frost Auto Restoration do a "non-ferrous metals" spray lacquer.
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

I used autosol on my old Shimano 600 cranks on the commuter (about 2 years ago) and they've stayed nice and shiny since

That's just a polish though, isn't it?  IME anything not thickly lacquered goes all blotchy in winter.

Belgom Alu claims to not only polish but also leave a protective waxy coating.

Yeah I think autosol leaves some kind of protection too. My cranks don't look blotchy at all.
