Tramadol is not on the Banned list, it is a controlled drug which limits (under UK) law how prescriptions are written and how supplies are purchased.

I once read the instructions on the packet and the list of side effects.  Not something I'd rush  to take if I didn't really need it.

Had a particularly spectacular wipe out during a Crit a couple of years back, shattering ribs front and back, and dividing the collarbone into several jigsaw pieces.  Lying in bed propped up by cushions during initial recovery, tramadol was my friend.
Stopped taking them as soon as I could deal with the discomfort.
Not something to chew on just to get you through a challenging ride.
