London friendly Essex YACF Xmas Do

As some of you will know, The Essex pub NIGHT RIDES have become a much cherish feature of the social diaries belonging to a select few Essex boys (alas no girls yet  :'( )  At our last meeting we decided a pre-Christmas ride was in order.  I have since come up with the idea of making this affair more lavish and try attracting YACF folk from a wider area.  Here is the cunning plan ...

A 45-minute train ride from Liverpool Street will get you to Hatfield Peverel, to the east of Chelmsford.  A reasonably nice 5-mile ride north-west with take you to the hamlet of Fuller Street where you will find The Square & Compasses.  This is a superb pub that serves fantastic and well priced food, we are regulars.  I have booked The Gallery (middle picture) which is the S&C's private dining room for Friday 12th December at 8pm.  The Gallery seats between 6 and 12 people.

Some of the regular Essex pub nightriders have already stated an interest in this event.  My hope is that we can fill The Gallery with forumers from both Essex, London and anyone else that can make it.  I believe I can promise you an evening of fine food and booze in beautiful surroundings.  If we are very good we might even be graced with Santa's presence  - who knows!

Please can you register an interest as I need to keep Victor, the S&C's genial landlord, informed of numbers.

No problem.  I will use our highly sophisticated on-line system to make a provisional reservation on your behalf.  Our terms and conditions state you can cancel before 1600 hours on the day of arrival.  If you breach these terms we reserve the right to take $6trillion from the  Suffolk County Council library card you are no doubt going to use to secure your provisional reservation.

Silly games may be appropriate.  If you read the Essex pub night ride thread you may gain the sense that the previous meetings of our motley crew haven't been entirely serious.

There will be pickled eggs!

Woo hoo!

Our works do has been set for 19th December (whilst I am on holiday, thank God).

Therefore, I am available for this foray into deepest, darkest Essex!

If anyone coming in from other areas need guiding in I can meet them at any number of train stations. Hatfield Peveral is the closest, but not many trains stop there. Going on to Witham might be a better bet and I could go straight from work rather than going home first. Chelmsford is another option but will put more miles/time on getting there. Depends on how you want your miles-pint ratio to work out  :P

Good idea Bobb.  I can also guide people in from Witham.  Getting off at Witham rather than Hatty Pev only adds 5 minutes to the train journey.  The ride from Witham to the pub is nicer if longer.

We will attempt to convert you to the pickled variety.  All you will need to accompany this delicacy is a packet of crisps and a pint of something brewed, brown and served at room temperature .  Victor the genial landlord will have just the thing.

Absolutely not.  I guess I could find something to do with a bag of crisps or a lollipop if they have any.  Oh just remembered it's Essex so I guess that anything goes!
