That's it! Retired from teaching after 36 years...
« on: September 02, 2018, 08:55:39 am »
Friday was my last paid day although as I am not at school next week it was a very relaxed last two weeks of the summer holiday with no planning and preparation to do. I handed over my keys to my successor and did a formal handover on GCSE results day.

Since then I have been mainly riding my bike ;D

All work related activities will now fit in around my hobbies and not the other way around.

Congratulations and many thanks for such a sterling effort.

People knock the teaching profession but without teachers, where would we be? And...if you think you can do better, then do so..... I stood in front of a class for an hour talking about the work of Citizens Advice and hated it. There is no way I would have made a teacher!

Enjoy riding your bike: may the roads be long, well surfaced and traffic free. May also the wind always behind you  ;D

Congratulations!

Enjoy your retirement. :)

That's a good innings and thank you for your service. Both my parents were secondary teachers and I looked into doing the same, then realised I could get paid more to do less work with less stress in industry! Just be careful not to do what my Dad did and start teaching supply "every now and then" to keep your "hand in". He ended up back on contract twice before finally retiring.

Well done and thank you for being a teacher.

Congratulations, and good health to enjoy retirement.
I've dusted all those old bottles and set them up straight.

Offered a Bikeability position today, assuming I pass the training course, so that will be a nice way to spend the odd week now and again. That is my fourth “take it or leave it” as and when I need more bike bits opportunities. ;D

A cycling associate also retired from teaching a few years ago and now does bikeability training. He absolutely loves it and seems very happy in his life now. (He’s a bit of a twat but I don’t begrudge him his happiness!)

One of the ride leaders in my local CTC group was a lifer in primary teaching and then SEN providing; she now also does bikeability in schools. Seems to be a popular way of combining cycling enthusiasm with the plus sides of teaching with few or none of the downsides.

Sounds good.  Our club ran a cycling school for some years: good fun on occasion and yielded some great photos.
