Let's hope it's a very wet night.  Win-win because those who can't or won't ride will be glad they didn't, and those who go on about their god-given right to ride will probably give it a miss.

The FB group was unlocked again yesterday, btw. EDIT: and soon locked again.

It's called the Cummings Effect.

You know you shouldn't but hey, that fascist prick who is accountable to nobody does what he wants so why shouldn't I?

I am unsure as to the legality or whether it contravenes guidance (other than in the most generic “stay at home as much as possible” kind of way.). What constitutes a gathering of more than 6.? Several thousand strangers on a beach is ok if socially distanced. What about several hundred strangers dispersed on a road alone or in groups of 2 or 3.  I think the fact the participants have organised it affects matters - it is not just a crowd thrown together by chance. The other aspect, does it count as an “staying overnight”. If overnight travel is not allowed, when does it become “overnight”? I think if only a few dozen turned up it would be fine. Spookily my first dynamo wheel will arrive at just the right time, but I think I will give it a miss.

Careful, Kim. Your sarcasm's showing...

285 miles from London Fields.  A nice little warmup for Teethgrinder, that.

I don't see what you mean. Is there some way I can check my eyesight?

Even though there are posts, saying things like
  • "... We would advise people not to do the Dynamo this year, for obvious reasons. If you do choose to do it, please do not post or encourage others to do so in this group. ..."

  • "Anyone who decides to do the DD On the night, and is going to ride in large groups, will be doing the event a Major Disservice! The DD relies heavily on the support and Goodwill of the town's and villages it passes through. ..."
People are still posting about how they're going to do it, and attempting to justify it. Unbelievably selfish. ::-) >:(

Whilst the pandemic appears to have brought out the best in some people, in others it just demonstrates that they really don't give a fuck about anyone else and their enjoyment is all that counts.  :'(
Actually, it is rocket science.

As pubs are open on the day of the ride, it seems less irresponsible (in a relative, not absolute, sense) than it did formerly.  Miserable riding there and back with no cafe or fire station to aim at.

Given that the pubs are going to be open all day, the last thing I think it would be wise to do is to go for a bike ride in the evening/overnight - especially in Essex!
Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?

Good point.  There will be fighting in the street, fighting on the beaches...

Yes, witnessing the recent scenes of the “Great British public” I’m not so sure I would like to be cycling on the day the pubs are allowed to be open!

Anyone know anyone who rode?  Weather was a bit frisky but was probably a very fast run in front of that westerly.

I saw someone rode the last few miles from one of the inland Suffolk villages. I don't know anyone who did the whole thing.

Checking the various Strava segments along the route there were about 40 recorded on Sunday*, and clicking through a sample most were people doing the full route. You can probably double that for non-Stravaites.

(* Strava lets you check segment matches "Today", but not for any day in the past)

I saw someone rode the last few miles from one of the inland Suffolk villages.

Raises paw.

Quite a few cars home going the other way. I overheard one person at the beach saying they were getting a taxi somewhere to get a train, and one person asking another rider what the nearest station was...
