Reflective hat from M&S
« on: November 01, 2019, 07:33:14 pm »
Fellow cyclist came to a meeting last night wearing one of these https://www.marksandspencer.com/reflective-beanie-hat-with-thermowarmth/p/clp60281237?color=NAVY#intid=plpnav_swatch reflective beanies from Marks and Spencer.

It's VERY thick and the reflective threads just look like marbling until a light hits them.

£9.50 - isn't cycle-specific but certainly doesn't scream 'mad garish cyclist'.

Available in black and navy.

Seems pretty warm.

As M&S stuff is always well made (IME anyway), I'm quite tempted by this.

HOWEVER, due to the low beam of most cars in most situations, I'm not sure a HiViz head is a great safety boon. Bums legs and hands are probably better places for this sort of material.

I may have a look on my next shopping trip into big town, when I will no doubt be thinking of togs for colder conditions ...

There's usually enough upward splash from dipped beams to pick out retroreflective stuff even high up.

My friend knitted a hat like this and it was pretty good - you can buy retroreflective knitting wool.

I've got a similar one (but with bobble ;D) which was from Mountain Warehouse, I think (it was a year or two ago, can't quite remember). A few other places do them as well. I've never worn mine cycling - I just wear it while walking about, because retroreflective stuff is fun.
