Ideale #90 saddle
« on: April 28, 2020, 11:04:35 pm »
Just arrived and not ridden yet but the Model 90 looks gorgeous in tan (also available in black).

Ideale was the French equivalent of Brooks and arguably more innovative. The company folded last century but a husband and wife team, in a labour of love, have been taught saddle manufacture by retired Ideale workers. The leather comes from a specialist tannery that normally only supplies a couple of designer brands but, attracted by the concept of reviving Ideale, agreed to supply the brand. They are reissuing the Model 90 (similar to Brooks Team Pro) currently and hopefully the slightly wider Model 92 (similar to B17 Special) down the line.

No saddlebag loops on the Model 90, being their professional racing model.

Have you got photos of the rear and underneath of the saddle? Thanks
Old enough to know better, but young enough to do it anyway

These the sort of thing you were looking for?

I like how all of the rivets have Ideale stamped into them, except for the rivet on either side of the nosepiece, to prevent damage to your shorts.

That is pretty. I would like to try a proper leather saddle one day. Looks like the kind of thing that could be sat on bare-arsed lael Wilcox stylee.

Apparently, the "Rodée Main Selon Rebour" stamp on original Ideale saddles indicate a patented leather conditioning/softening treatment.

The reissued Ideale saddles use the same treatment. Apparently Fred's intent is to exactly recreate the highest quality Ideale saddle models.

Their website only has their emails.  Is that the only way to find out more?

Emails is it. Katia's English is very good, which makes things easy for monoglots like me.

I have been regurgitating some of the stuff in her emails to me, since there are only a few websites with snippets regarding the new Ideale.

D'you have to join a secret club to get one of these saddles, or even to find any info?

My saddle cost 260 EU including postage via Paypal; it seemed quite painless.

I found out the revived Ideale existed by visiting their stand while signing on at PBP19. A quick google found a few snippets including https://www.victoire-cycles.com/en/news/come-back-idéale-saddles.html The rest was in the emails from Katia.

No idea, no scales here and don't really care. It has thick leather and steel rails, so not a featherweight.

I was just interested as it looks very “solid”. Stunning looking saddle, much more refined than a brook’s.
