English or American?
The article referenced shows dates in US format, but then we had an instance a few days ago of an American spelling (favor) so if that spread is based on US spellings then that should work for Wordle.

There again, I can't imagine there would be much difference in sequence between UK and US.

I see we have Noah Webster to thank for dropping the 'u', or at least popularising it, and many other changes. Even after living here for 25+ years I still find u's and s's (for zee's of course, rather than zed's) to be speedbumps on the keyboard.

Thanks btw for the link, which included another one to a great old video of the last days of hot lead. As a former typesetter I came in at the tail end of phototypesetting.

I really like that. I don't think that TEARS is a good starting word - it's come out with some wordle-unfriendly solutions like JUICY and MUCKY. I'm not sure I like its spelling WOOLY, though...
