New style Mavic free hub ( thru axle )

What are they meant to sound like - I’ve had to “rebuild” one cause it just comes apart - you can take the whole cassette and freehub just OFF

Anyway there’s no pawls or anything just two toothy rings and a spring - there’s a lot of teeth for “instant” engagement so rather than the usual Mavic pingy ticking it’s more like a clicky buzz - is that what it’s meant to sound like , I mean it’s working

I’ve used the QR adapters and it genuinely seems that those and the torque on the cam are what’s holding it all together - a little reminiscent of threadless forks

One niggling doubt I do have is that on the non drive side there’s a wavy washer and a circlip , the axle has no groove for the circlip so how far do you push that on and will it affect the friction of the bearing/axle marriage

It's nothing new - DT Swiss used this design 20 years ago.
They had to redesign the ratchets* - if drive was applied without full engagement they would chip and fail.
Steve and I rode a impromtu fixed wheel tandem 200 of 400K with the large sprocket cable tied to spokes.
Let's hope the designer has learnt from history...
