Humph. As I said, after just 6500 km. Drat.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

It's worse than that: I fitted a new set of M520s to my tourer in June, and one side of the right pedal developed a click within 400km.   >:(

I've been thinking about screwing a cleat to a bit of perspex or something in an attempt to see exactly what's going on.  Hard to work it out when there's a shoe in the way.

I got a click on my left shoe/cleat. Which is great when it does click I know I'm not pedalling right and if I continue my knee and then hip will hurt.

The loft ladder.

One broken bracket, part removed and reinforced with some holed metal strapping and the hatch area reinforced as well.

Will eventually need replacing

good stuff, just goes to show that the mech would shift down to 36t sprocket no problem (even shifts to 40t but needs small modification) when shimano specifies 32t max.

Removed the old fridge from the utility room and replaced it with the fridge freezer that was delivered this morning. Then spent a good two hours sorting screws and nails into a new storage case before going for shopping. Upon return I spent a happy half hour or so, with TLD and Mrs T, sticking stickers on the aforementioned fridge freezer.

A mostly new headset (had to re-use the old crown race as the LBS had sourced a 26.2 and I needed a 27.0 - you don't know till you get it off.)
New mudguards so the PFY bike is ready for winter. The SKS mudguards are a work of art.

Quite proud of this one. Downtube cable stop snapped off (if you look closely you'll see it was never attached!) so we sourced a replacement.

Well that's the more blunt way of putting it but as usual he's dead right.

During Routine Maintenance of my commuter bike today, I discovered why the shifting had become a bit temperamental.

Both pivots on the rear mech were seized:
The pivot at the hanger mounting, and the pivot at the cage mounting.
They were both pretty much solid.

I'm surprised the chain hadn't dragged along the road!
But then I realised my commute these days is pretty much flat, and I don't change gear much.

Whilst cleaning it all up and soaking it in lubricant, a spring finally released and sprung back where it belongs, nipping my little finger and raising a bloody great blister!

Finished the Samsung NotePro battery swap. Easy-peasy, which makes me wonder why Samsung charge so much to change them & how Amazon sellers can charge £75 for a 'kit' to swap them. All it takes is a slender, blunt edge and one small precision 'driver and the job's a good'un. Total cost, with a set of 'drivers: £25.

replaced the chain* on the audax bike (after almost 8,000km it still has not stretched to 0.75%, but the drivetrain didn't feel as smooth as i like it to be).

Replaced the fluorescents in my office.  Osram doesn't mention anywhere on the box that the tubes within are self-starting and the shop had hung the starters next to the tubes so I bought a couple as well then found back home that the fitment didn't have anywhere to plug them in. Tubes started anyway so I now have a couple of spare 36W starters in the oubliette drawer.  Where I will doubtless find them the next time I put in a couple more surplus starters. :-\

I fitted my new rear light this morning. It ennarf fierce. Motons should be able to see me from a couple of miles back. If they can be bothered to look up from their phone / ipad / sales figures / jazzmag or whatever for a second or two, that is

turned ss bike into a geared bike, for a change. swapping of rear dropouts was initially prevented by one seized bolt, which had to be removed with the help of soldering iron, dremel cutter, flat screw driver, adjustable wrench and brute force. burned my thumb in the process, so now got a nice throbbing blister. everything else went fine. the bike gained 1.2kg.. :-\

I hate those. I've been dazzled by far too many of them when I'm cycling along & someone with one of 'em cuts in in front of me.

Most of 'em are too narrowly focused, as well, so that moton doesn't see you unless he's directly behind you. Think what happens when someone who you've just dazzled moves sideways slightly & you become much harder to see.

A big red glow which is equally visible across a wide angle is much better.

I had a bloke pass me with not 1, but 3 incredibly bright red flashers, all going off at different speeds. The effect made me feel rather sick.
Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

Rear (alloy) fender on my tourer broke.  Replaced it with a Gilles Berthoud stainless steel job.

The original fender had a little "GB" badge.  Seemed appropriate to keep it ;-)

The rear mudguard bridge broke last weekend, so I replaced that.

Replaced the chain on the Pompino.
For an identical link count, the new chain is 26mm shorter than the old worn one  :o
Somewhat unsurprisingly,  the chainring was found to be beyond its useful service life, consisting now of little more than 42 shark's fins.

A series of 16:00-on-a-Saturday panicky phone-calls to a number of LBSs managed to secure one from Rat Race Bikes in Nunhead.
Rear sprocket cleaned to within an inch of its life, chain & chainring fitted and adjusted.
Tomorrow it'll be the turn of the brakes, front and back.

Swapped the rear mudguard on the winter bike. It is the full easy to remove race ones from SKS so took about 30 seconds.

Obtained and fitted a set of the COB lights from ALDI. Wow they are bright.
