How big is one of those inductive charging wossnames...?  Efficiency's pretty poor though, IIRC.

Helping with a project that Barakta was instrumental in pointing me in the right direction for. One of our students is developing new BSL for biology. After many weeks in the lab and several linguistic workshops, he is now committing the new signs to video.

So pleased with how that linking up turned out all round.

Today has been another day of "yay deaf communities" as people are really quick to connect folk up with one another "You need to talk to X, they know about this thing" and people are generous with their time and expertise/skills when it's for community benefit.

Odd job day.

1. Leaky shower enclosure. Wasn't until I turned the shower on and stood outside it that I could see water-drops bouncing off the basin floor and up through  a small gap in the door seal. I've bodged a small section of vinyl with tape to the inside of the door. No more drips!

2. New headphone lead for my wife's Sony MDR 7506s. Son No 1 had bent the jack plug on the curly cable. All in all it seemed a good idea to fit a jack socket to the phones and craft a replaceable male-male lead. Though trying the cans out afterwards made me want to steal them for their huuuge sound!

Threw away some expensive Cinelli Giro d'Italia bars, scratched when trying to fit them to a 3TTT stem, and replaced them with some cheaper yet equally light ITM bars, which fitted easily without damage.

Stem is claimed 25.8/26.0  (really).

Cinelli bars are claimed 26.0 but are up to 26.3 at bulge!

ITM bars are claimed 25.8 but are 25.6 at bulge.

Bloody Italian tolerances.  They say you shouldn't mix and match manufacturers of bar and stem, and they're right.

I've just switched a stronglight 34t chainring for a shimano one.

I've been having problems with shifting down from the 48t (Spa) ring to the stronglight ring, where the chain seemed to be getting hung up between the rings. The shimano ring has a different profile meaning that the teeth are closer to the spindle, and make the gap smaller.

The shifting worked ok with SL inner and outer rings though.

The new ring seems to shift better in the workstand, so it'll be interesting to see if this has solved my problem.
Interesting, as I'd thought the Spa rings were rebranded Stronglight. I guess not.

I have defettled a chainset but have got stuck on unstucking the bottom bracket. Partly because the splines are so shallow and partly because the thing is just too tight. I think I'm going to have to take it in to a s-h-o-p.

Got my winter bike ready for the next 6 months of riding. Well, it's a Spa Audax frame (with stickers removed)
built up with stuff of my own choice.

The essaitchohpee said they'd see if they could get it done today or maybe tomorrow but busy. An hour later they messaged me to say it was done. "Was it easy then?" I asked Colin. "Yes," said Colin, and then demonstrated how it had been the kind of easy that is made by a four foot bar and a mallet.

A box of dead vegetables, screws and pegs into a 7' high towel cupboard for the shower room.

We can now empty the boxes of towels out of the spare bedroom. Hopefully we can then fit a single bed into the spare room, meaning we will have two rooms for guests, visitors and the odd tired audaxer.

Front derailleur height. It's not quite as simple as just height, is it?

in order to lower the gears on my dad's bike (11sp campag) took the 11-23 cassette off along with the freehub. replaced the freehub with the shimano one, took the 11sp 11-28 cassette off the smart trainer and installed it on the rear wheel. couldn't find the 11t lockring anywhere, so used spare cassette's (10sp ultegra 12-23) top sprocket along with the 12t lockring. the cassette starts 12,12,13,14.. which is a bit of a bodge but i bet he'll not miss the 53×11 top gear.
installed the campag 11sp 11-23 on the trainer for which it's perfect.

Like mudguard stays and V-brake pads, it's one of those frustratingly hard multi-axis problems.

Replaced the captain's saddle and handlebar stem on George's tandem last night, so that I could ride around this morning's 50km pre-work brevet. Not a bad day for it. Just out of winter, started before dawn and only shorts and short sleeves needed.

tyre cut and sudden deflation fixed by a nachos bag found on the roadside. 27km into 200km ride, which didn't happen and we turned back home the way we came. replaced the tyres with conti gp4season.

A shame you have to curl up into a little foetal ball to have a shower, but it really does get your hair clean.

So far, the egg carton = bowl, the plastic pot got unstuck in short order, and she didn't manage to work out (or rather had got bored by that point) how to get the biscuits out of the shorter tubes.

I've been slowly fettling a d20 with the amino acids on each face (yes I am a Life Sciences lecturer). It is not small.
Progress is here - should get the second side of the mould jacket on tomorrow and then I can escape the plaster room before the students return next week.

First cast will be in dental acrylic because I got given it as left overs from casting skulls when they went digital.

Progress in chronological order.

Set up the Dia-Compe GC700 centre-pulls on the Bob Griffin.  Not easy but they are the right brakes for the job: Drop is the full 70mm at the rear and not much less at the front, and DP brakes in this size don't look good at all.  Plain-post cantilever brake pads are the work of Stan, though.
