A seat fettling evening

Firstly removed the sheared bolt from the Ikea Poang chair and replaced it with a new (longer) bolf free from Ikea.  This needed drilling out the hole to take the extended length. I can now sit and watch TV in comfort once more.

I've been having some saddle discomfort on the Mercian - not having the same issue with the Bianchi. So I decided to swap saddles Brooks Proffesional for a Selle Italia which was the Bianchi's original that was replaced on a wim when I found a TI version in the bargin box at the LBS. Whilst doing so I discovered that the saddle was 2 cm higher on the Mercian. No discomfort this morning, but I don't know if this is down to the saddle or the position. Having a Bianchi logo'ed saddle on the Mercian is just wrong though!

I thought you meant Seat, as in "car".

I was about to be hurt because my car is Swedish, and yet it's not upholstered by Ikea.

I could have said 'chair', but that wouldn't appy to the bike.

I quite like the idea of a wooden framed bendy chair in a Volvo though :)

I finally got round to making a sensible lead for my Fenix BT10. It has a socket, & my batteries all have sockets, so they need something to connect them. I have a lead from some old Vistalite lights that fits, but it's inconveniently long for most uses (e.g. needs to be wrapped untidily round the frame), & the right-angled plug at one end is less than ideal.

So . . . got a bit of curled twin core I had lying around from some other old light (can't remember what), & stuck a DC power plug on each end. Perfect!

A rather elegant new set of these

arrived through the post this morning, to replace the set damaged in a collision on 7th May. There's an added bonus in that they are 12 grams lighter than the older version!

Curiously, Shimano have political motivation in their colour-coding of plastic bags. The left pedal was packed in a bag with red printing, and the letter "L" displayed prominently. The right pedal's bag was printed in blue and had a picture of Iain Duncan Smith large letter "R" on it.

That must be confusing in the USA, where the Right are Republican, and associated with Red.  Whereas Blue is associated with the Democrats, who are...also Right.  Perhaps that's why the US goes round in circles.

Clean drive train for the Longstaff. Dry lube for the next ride (York Langholm York) , so cue the monsoon rains.

Tech II Shield Hardeners and some Thermal/EM damage resistance rigs.

Most of other people's technical fixes make as little sense to me  ;)

I fettled a wonderful 3-egg-with-cheddar-cheese omelette for my lunch today. Although self-praise, as my late mother used to say, is no recommendation, I have yet to taste a better omelette than those I cook myself.

A busy hour after dinner this evening - broken hinges replaced on rear door to garage, then a few jobs on the Hanlon: under-seat bottle cage fitted, 14-24 five-speed block fitted, chain oiled and brakes adjusted. I'm hoping for an early run out tomorrow, the weather looks as if it will be good!

I have seen a 2CV with the front seats replaced by deck chairs.

Giving Mrs. Hall's Nexus 8 speed an oil bath. So far, so good.

Having a few unintended unclippings lately so new cleats and an extra click of tension in the pedals on the Tricross. Much improved.

Done. Used some EP80 hypoid gear oil that I had in the SEECRIT BUNKER in place of Shimano ver ver spensive magic oil.  It didn't really take me 5 hours, it's just that when I put it back on the bike, I couldn't get the lower 4 gears, so I went for a ride.

Once back and relaxed I applied a bit of logic, cleaned up the cassette joint and adjusted the cable length.

Let's see how the user gets on with it.

I cleaned out the fish tank whilst the Nevs sulked in a glass flower pot.

Next I fettled a shelf on to Boy Wunja's desk so he can add a PC to the DJ console, mixer, sampling thingy and goodness knows what other music kit he has aquired.

Finally finished the new hub dynamo front wheel and installed it together with the Cyo T lamp on to the Mercian. I wasn't impressed with the HD mounting bracket on the Cyo. Its not compatible with caliper brakes.
But the light output.... Big Grin!

Swapped the tyres on the Brompton for M+ and the rear wheel for one with an AW hub.  The gearchange was a bit sticky after the wheel had been hanging in the garage for 3 years (I normally ride it with an AM, which gives you three useful gears rather than one useful gear and two bail-out gears) so I've given the AW 3ml of synthetic GL4 gear oil, which is quite a lot for a SA hub.  It freed up instantly but I expect 2.9ml will leak out, so it has paper towel wrapped around the spokes for now.

if you can't keep up with me on Friday given that

1. It's been half term, I'm working away most of this week, and I haven't ridden much
2. I am on a Brompton...
3. ...with the heaviest tyres known to man

then you need to work on your training regime  :P

Removed old chain and cassette (well past 1%)
Dismantled chainset, cleaned & re-assembled
Removed jockey wheels, cleaned RD, re-lubed jockey wheels, re-assembled
Installed new cassette (12-30 in place of 13-29) and new chain.
Rerouted RD cable so as to reposition gel pads under bar tape (as some hand pain after BCM600)
Re connect everything and re index gears.
Retape bars

Now typing with grubby fingers.
