Unfortunately I have not pressed the leccy button yet as the best part of 3 grand conflicts with my mental image of what a bike costs. I suppose I will have to give in eventually. (My original Reg Harris cost me £15 second hand.) Still, looking forward to catching up with everyone and putting the world to rights. I will bring the Trek tho' but, I can alway ask Chris for a tow.
I had the same mental fight. But my thinking was straightforward in the end.
1. I've had my Thorn for 16 years and it's done more than 41k miles. It owes me nothing but it makes a wonderful pub bike.
2. I'm going to need to go electric at some point, and it's not going to be cheap. So the sooner I start, the better value for money I will get.
3. I only intend to do this once, so I need to get something really good. A basic leccy bike will probably not do what I want it to.
In the end I shelled out far more than I ever thought I would on a bike. The only regret I feel is the paranoia of leaving it somewhere for any length of time where I can't see it. And if I am still riding my R & M when I've had it for 16 years, I'll be 84 and consider it money well spent.
None of us is getting any younger. And we can't take it with us.
