Share your plans for 2023
« on: 08 January, 2023, 05:08:53 pm »
I got all but 2 of last year's done. One of which was deemed no longer required and the other no funds.

This year's list is a bit shorter:
  • Make some cushion covers out of poncy fabric to go with the new sofa cover. Been >30y since I used a sewing machine so hopefully my brother will help.
  • Take the 2nd stair rail off, strip the shitty paint off and varnish it. Try to remember all the lessons learned from doing the first one
  • Get the kitchen door replaced with a glazed one to let more light into the hall (GAMI). Strip the paint back on the door surround and redo.
  • Repeatedly annoy Home Energy Scotland in the vain hope that eventually they'll give me some money back for the insulation I paid for 6 months ago (I'm not holding my breath)  :-\
  • Get a quote to replace the crap electric shower and bath with a decent mains shower and cabinet (subject to my employer seeing fit to dish out a bonus, if not learn some plumbing and install a bath shower mixer)
  • Buy a blackthorn and plant it among the leylandii roots.
  • Plant the fuji cherries. Plant some creeping thyme in the front chuckies as ground cover.
  • Plant lots more beastie friendly plants, hopefully find some that don't get scoffed by the molluscs.
  • Paint some more of the fence.
  • Insulate the kitchen cupboard (I was going to do that over the xmas hols but the courier has never delivered the materials).
  • Stoke the kitties
  • Maybe even ride my bike
Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

I'd quite like to retire.
I was thinking about it two years ago, but there seemed little point when I would still be stuck in the house, probably at the same desk staring at a computer, only not being paid for it.
Well, that didn't happen. Maybe this year!

Get this leg actually working (may not happen in 23 either due to waiting lists, femur healing time, timescales etc).
Avoid the sodding Covid-19 viruses.
Improve capacity to do my voluntary work of access to justice and equity for disabled people.

What, and let <deity> have a laugh!
For every complex problem in the world, there is a simple and easily understood solution that’s wrong.

Well, that didn't happen. Maybe this year!

I'm a little nervous about posting to this thread as last year's plan included a grand tour of Europe requiring access from Finland through Russia to Georgia and that didn't last long! Following that I cocked up a plan to go to Iceland by not realising that accommodation is not a given there and most people take a tent.

Anyway, I'm not superstitious so here goes:
  • Tunisia (already booked)
  • Scandinavia (when the weather permits) expensive so might be quite short
  • Iceland (this is def. bucket list, I haz tent now)
  • Ireland - it's so close and looks amazing, why have I never been there??
  • Hungary - I've been to Budapest but never cycled in the country
  • Go and see Leléka play live, they've not been able to gig since just after I discovered them then covid happened

Go camping a few times, or even many times ...

Finish insulating the dining room.

Restart my running after 7 months off.

Get going with at least one of the two photography projects bouncing around my head.

Do the road trip I narrowly avoided booking and paying for in 2020.

* A level Further Maths self-study (continuing from what I started least summer).  FP3. M5-6, NA, NC, DC and all of Stats to go.
* Apply for a couple of jobs and decide whether I want them later
* Do a longer ride this year (above the commute/utility level).

I should add something kid related in, but that's more reactive than planned. (though I did sort music lessons, boardgames and 11+ workbooks).  Maybe become an awesome autistic dad.
