White hydrogen
« on: 15 November, 2023, 08:28:17 am »
Has been in the news recently. Seems we are sat on vast reserves of the stuff. So copious in fact, that it could provide world wide energy requirements for a 1,000 years or so. Not being of a scientific persuasion, does this have any application in the real wider world? There is already at least one township already powered by the stuff.

Well, all the existing problems of storage and transportation remain but clearly pure hydrogen (or close to pure anyway) as opposed to having to make the stuff would negate the argument about just how energy intensive hydrogen production is.

If you're sitting right on top of it I would imagine that it's extremely fortunate but as soon as you are a few hundred miles / across water from it, the practicality lessens I expect.

I've heard these natural reserves of hydrogen referred to as gold hydrogen. Now it's white. There's also green, blue and grey. For a colourless gas, it's got a palette like a Botticelli.

No matter how white it is, doesn't change the fact it will be a finite resource.

Hm.  IANA rock-banger, but this white hydrogen wouldn't happen to be lurking in the same sort of geological features that contain natural gas and oil, would it?

Funnily enough:

white hydrogen has been discovered in France, in the Lorraine mining basin

From that Guardian piece.  Not really surprising, it's coming from the breakdown of biological material.

They did get him to introduce TOTP once or twice, which was usually accompanied with lashings of sarcasm.  Jeffrey Daniels of Shalamar apparently banks with Lloyds in the Balls Pond Road while Incantation’s “Carchapaya” was “delicious in a white wine sauce”.
