Sharing MS One Drive folder
« on: 10 June, 2024, 11:07:00 am »
Anyone know how I can share a One Drive folder so they they can see files I place in it, & vice versa.  Currently this MS Win 10 PC wants the other person to be a user on this PC, so I guess I need to tweek some network setting?  Don't normally use One Drive.

They need to log in as you I think.  We use OneDrive at work as a cheap workaround instead of having a server.  We have 2 office locations and one has very flaky internet, but that is where the server would need to be, so our computer man suggested the OneDrive option.  It actually works quite well.  So it can be done.

Thx.  Ideally I'd like to be able to simply enter their hotmail email address in the folder permissions, then make the folder 'discoverable' just to them, or summat like that...

If I right click on a folder in my One Drive and hit share, it gives me an option to email a link, and I can set it so anyone with the link can edit. Does that not work for you?

No. If I highlight folder and click share, only has share with specific people (users).  If I right click on folder, only Give access to > specific people, or Send (folder) to...  No send link option.

I take it your OneDrive is definitely in the Cloud? I'm also on a Win10 PC, and I don't get what you get. Must be something to do with your sharing settings, because MS reckons the same as me.

If your folder is only held on your PC, not in the Cloud, you won't be able to share it.

OK thanks, I've been looking at my desktop One Drive, but my internet One Drive on //onedrive.live.com/  is different...  Has share/linking options.  Will check this out.

That's why it is called One Drive, because there are two of them.  ;D
It is simpler than it looks.

Troodat.  ;)

Basically, I suppose, because my desktop OD is not visible to the outside world, only me & MS.
