PS on the way down to Cornwall pre Xmas passed the wicker man on the M5. He had wood! a bloody great log. My daughters were very shocked. It had been removed by the time we came back tho.

But did you notice the camels or the dinosaur? Both are pieces of unoffficial 'public art', the camels have been there for years.

What annoys me is the "Angel of the South"  references

Is every structure that is not north of Newcastle going to be dubbed "The Angel of the South"?

Yes. But only until it's built and we're lumbered with super Dobbin and it will get it's own identity.  :-\

I know it's not glittery or inflatable, but is anyone else thinking of Jeff Koons?

Not quite, we've already got the Sails of the South and the Concrete Monstrosity of the South Spinnaker Tower down here.

I quite like it. Could have been better though.

I've never seen the Angel in the flesh, but I loved it when a bunch of Newcastle fans made it a giant Shearer shirt :P
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

The "Spinney" as one of my Antipodean colleagues calls it is a typical British institution.

Late
Over budget
Councils failed to write the contracts so the TAxpaer picked up the bill
The Company was allwed to build the profitable bits and then delayed the unprofitable ones.
The lifts still don't work
It is a cheap copy of another design

Yep - a real testament.

More "Wicker Man" then "Angel", I think.

In Newcastle city centre there is a shop called "Bagel Of The North"  ;D
