In a previous life

Inspired by a comment in the "out of it" thread I wonder what various types of employment forum members have had.
Me...
apprenticeship in sheetmetal fabrication
formal training in engineering draughtsmanship
heating & ventilating engineer
air conditioning training
a/c management
redundancy
bus driver :o
suspended ceilings & partition management
self employment in susp. clgs & partitions installation.

I try to forget the time spent drug running, pimping & arms smuggling ;D

Worked in a blood research lab growing HeLa cells and investigating haemophilia.
Was a PhD student/research assistant developing PCR-based methods of testing strawberry plants for virus infection.
Was a Lab Technician at an agricultural college (and was generally treated like scum when other staff members deigned to notice me).
Now work in Pensions.

1 day in a fish factory producing kippers (the smell was unbearable)
1 week selling burglar alarms door to door (comission only and made precisely £0)
1 week night shift cleaning toilets at the Gyle shopping centre (colleagues were the biggest bunch of brain dead idiots you could possibly imagine)
1 week as a trainee sound engineer in a recording studio (boss was a total coke head that spent his time sleeping under the desk when he wasn't running around maniacally being a complete arse)
15 years as a graphic designer (still doing that)

I've never had a real job. While still at home I did a paper round for a bit & was a lifeguard for a few hours a week.  During my PhD I've done a fair amount of teaching assistance (in exchange for my stipend) and was the office monkey administrator for our research group for about 8 months.
What on earth am I doing here on this beautiful day?! This is the only life I've got!!
