Tour of Brooks factory, Brum - Friday 19th Feb, 2010
« on: 07 May, 2009, 07:58:22 pm »
Right folks, as you will see from the posts below the opportunity to visit the Brooks factory has proved to be enormously popular. Thus far 35 people have expressed an interest  :o

The problem is that for Health and Safety reasons the factory can only accommodate tours of 15 people max.  So, I have arranged with Steve Green, Brook's Office Manager that two tours will take place on the morning of Friday 19th February 2010.  The first will commence at 0930 hrs and the second at 1100 hours.  Each Friday the factory shuts at 1230 hrs.  If you end up on the later tour please do not turn up too early as there is nowhere within the factory or office to wait.

This means that a maximum of 30 people can take part so we are over subscribed.  Given that the tour is still some months away I will ask people to confirm their attendance on a first come first served basis in the New Year. However, I think it fair to guarantee places to those that have already booked holiday or accommodation.  So far I believe those people are me, Polar Bear and Mr & Mrs Aidan, please shout if you have made arrangements you can't back out of.

The address of the factory is Brooks England, Downing Street, Smethwick, B66 2PA, West Midlands.

Basil kindly offered some advice on travel arrangements:

The best way to get there from Central Brum is to take the tram from Snow Hill Station (Which is 10 mins walk from New Street Station.)

Beware.  Google maps seems to suggest that the station entrance is on Livery Street.  It isn't.  Its on Colmore Row - opposite the Great Western Arcade.

The tram journey takes 8 mins (according to the time table)
Trams run every 8 - 10 minutes.

The Brooks factory is 400 metres from the Handsworth Booth Street Stop.

I meant to mention that the factory doesn't have a shop and you can't buy stuff directly from them.

Interested.
My club was going to go but itseems to have fizzled out.
We had a club run around that way a while back.  After passing the Hawthorns and heading down the hill we stopped for a regroup and looking around noticed that we were out side the old abandoned Brooks factory.  The brass name plate was still on the wall outside....plans are afoot to go back with large screw driver

That's what I was thinking.  Given several months notice, I would imagine that most peeps could arrange a days annual leave.

I did.

But while the sounds enthralled, the stills left me a tad disappointed.

Glad people are interested.  As I said I imagine this will be a late 2009 early 2010 gig.  I certainly can't do it much before then.

I have just added a poll to see when people could go.  Please vote.

Thanks

Me, me, me, me please. I'm happy to take a day off and go in the week.

I thought the terms of the injunction kept you away from places where there might be a large number of saddles ;D

According to the nice chap at Brooks if we are very good we will be allowed a quick shufty around their TOP SECRET R&D DEPARTMENT where their new range of gimp masks are being developed.
