External hard drives suggestions
« on: 28 April, 2008, 11:53:18 am »
Any one got any suggestions for around 250gb to 500gb?

The darling mini-jellieds have filled the main drive [granted it was only 40gb]. just need some where to dump all my photographs and music.

Western Digital and Maxtor get very mixed reviews on Amazon - some people love them, others hate them.

500 gb for around £60-£70 looks about average

Don't have USB 2.0 but speed is not a massive issue for me. I know how to wait.

I have around 30 Western Digital MyBook Pros. I do shitloads of video editing on them. Overall they are the most reliable external drives I have found.

I've got a Western Digital 500GB My Book for add-on storage, never gets moved, reasonably cheap, does the job. If you go for something portable, be aware that some drives require more power than a standard USB port can supply.

Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

Cheers - perhaps WD is the way the go. 500gb sounds fine, and no need for it to be portable. Just wait till after payday...
