That’s just waiting to take out the rear mech on my grasshopper. And if I had the underseat rack loaded I’d have to carry my bike through. If fact I’m not altogether certain that the USS would even clear the lumps. Not that any of that would matter if I hit the CG first with 20” wheels.  >:(

To be fair, the cattle grid's probably survivable given sufficient speed.  The other bit, not so much...

I can't buy shoes on t'internet cos I have feet the opposite shape to everyone else on the planet.

I beg to differ. I am N+1 in this context

My feet are Shimano-shaped (if not Shimano-sized), so there must be someone out there with really small feet the same shape as me.

Older readers will remember the foot x ray machine. What were they thinking? Shop, people, children. Let's add ionising radiation.
I do.  You could clearly see the outline of your foot in the shoe.  I'm 65 now.  Does not seem to have done me any harm!  My feet are as knackered as the rest of me.

Customers were usually OK, it was the sales staff that got it in the nellies.

I'm sure you'll all agree that this is well beyond "Whinge/Grumble" status:

When did people start talking about a "cycle" when they mean a "[bike] ride??

This is madness!  :hand:

1990: needed to do a bit of routing: set up the piece, set up the router, made the cut.

2019: needed to do a bit of routing: set up the piece, set up the router, put on the safety glasses, plugged in the earplugs, put on the dust mask. Started the cut. Three seconds in, the safety glasses are halfway misted up by outflow from the mask and by the end of the cut I'm working blind with nothing but the guide bearing directing things.

Bastards at HMRC have refused to deregister my company for VAT.  The application was made 31 March.  How do you suppose they chose to notify me that something had not gone smoothly:
a) an email to the address they hold
b) a letter to the address they hold
c) wait until I unknowingly miss the next VAT return date and then issue a fine.  Which of course they can notify me of by both of the above means.

I did find a notification of the refusal eventually.  The shitbiscuits had hidden it in a dark recess of the web portal, so well hidden was it that on the way back I kept checking to see if I'd missed the Beware of the Leopard sign.

Put in a complaint and tell them you'll go to court over the fine cos they didn't let you know in a reasonable manner. HMRC do cave when threatened with court, otherwise they're dreadful shitwizards of the highest and least competent order.

Picture this: a Mr Larrington abroad with a TwatNav that randomly reboots itself for no readily apparent reason.  Could be five seconds after she's restarted the last time, or four hours, but which is rapidly driving the aforementioned Mr Larrington stark-staring mad.  Sorry, Emily, you have served me well for eight years but it's Silicon Heaven for you.  Mr Wal says he will supply me with a new Garmin TwatNav for fewer than one hundred of your Earth dollars from his local Mart.

Or rather he won't.  You have to order and pay for it online and then collect it from the Mart.  OK, I shall do that.  Pointy clicky clicky enter credit card details and WHAT????

If you try to leave the "State" field unfilled in the billing address you cannot proceed.  You can select from all 50 states, DC, Puerto Rico, American Samoa and one or two others, but not anywhere that is not subservient to the White House.  You bastards made of piss!  i diskard you.

My opinion of tradesmen's reliability is generally low, so I'm wondering if the lift at my new block of flats really was out of order, or whether it's a weasly excuse for you, the carpet fitter, to not finish a job today, as promised. And, if you need to go back tomorrow, why don't you prioritise my job before doing the other one mentioned? I have a chippy on standby waiting for you to finish your work so he can get in to do his.

If the lift really was borked, I hope it's fixed by Saturday when the big move in starts.

The problem with lift repairs, is they tend to involve tradesmen...

In the end, the jobs both got done. However, carpet fitters seem allergic to vacuum cleaners! The bloke planing 10mm of the doors didn't leave a trace of his presence, whereas the fitters left a shedload of fluffy bits all over the place. All sorted with 15 minutes of Henrying, but hardly a massive ask for those making the mess to clear it up, is it?

At the risk of nixing something it turns out the fine I ranted gently about up thread wasn't a fine at all.  It was a guesstimate HMRC had made of the VAT I owed them.  Now that I have submitted the missing return the guestimate is superseded and the sum I sent is now a credit on my account.

Blimey.

I'm pretty sure it said if you are over 71 you can ask to be excused. Dunno what the rules are south of the border tho.
