Bicycle trailers for a Motorbike,
« on: 05 May, 2008, 02:10:07 pm »
I have a BMW K100RS and I'd like to use it to tow a bike to Audaxes. I've tracked down a tow-bar kit http://www.towequipe.co.uk/1/1/6187-watling-flange-towbar-bmw-r100-rs-rt-cs-980cc-motorcycle-80-98.html but I 'm having less luck with a trailer. Does anyone have any experience of this sort of thing?

Damon.

Something like a dinghy or jet-ski trailer might fit the bill?

Yikes! You'd think that was a bit iffy in terms of the weight and leverage.  You would also have to be a bit careful going around corners, since that lot is going to swing out a bit!
Actually, it is rocket science.

Why not use the bike itself as the trailer? Use a dummy front hub as a hitch, remove the front wheel and attach the rest of the bike, running on its rear wheel...

Sounds mad, I know, but I discussed it with somebody at Watsonian Squire a while ago, and they thought it was a goer. I haven't pulled my finger out and done it, though...

Not really. A bike weighs, what? 12-15kg? The effect of the weight is tiny compared to a 100kg pillion and a 50kg pannier load, say.  ;D

I would be cautious of cross winds, though. I notice my 52l top box when it's breezy.

I just saw this on Ebay, and thought of this thread...

Wouldn't it be better to have a rack to one side?   Such as these surfboard racks (scroll down).
