Hi Lynn, it's nice to read that others are training on pies and cakes.

The PS has become a set entree for me, it would have been my sixth in a row, ........getting slower each time!

I can do Saturdays; especially as there is a semblance of a train service that day

have done the Paypal thang;

ISTR this ride really hurt the last time back in 2006 (the same day as the Rhyl tragedy) mostly from riding into freezing rain from the Malmesbury Garden Centre to Chipping Norton with no useable glasses; like having lancets fired into my eyes.

a classically bleak ride but not that hard.

I can do Saturdays, but unfortunately no longer can I do that particular Saturday.

So I now have a room going free at the Peartree Travelodge for the Friday night for the bargain price of £9. PM me if you want it.
EDIT: Room now taken.

That was the day the wire came off my hub dynamo going down the hill into Chipping Campden, and I got there just as the cafe was closing so had to get some COLD food at the shop and then struggled to re connect the wire with arms numb from the elbow down. :( :(  Still a great ride  ;D ;D

that was the day NikW ate my beans on toast and the Little Britain type cafe took another hour to make some more. I got to Chipping Campden after you (and even Mr Larrington)

This is a really boring question, I'm afraid......

I see that the first control (HQ) is Peartree Services, Oxford.  Is there free parking or will we get ripped off by the high prices charged by some service stations?  If so, I may park nearby and simply ride in.

I thought it was at/very near the park and ride.  If so, parking is cheap:

Edit: actually, this implies that it's free if you just want to park for the day:

Not too bad, either way.

it is at the park and ride; you had to pay in 2006 (and on a Sunday) but maybe they got fed up with having the ticket machines robbed (there were also quite a few burnt out cars there as well; maybe that service station or even a residential street off the A40 is not such a daft idea)

It was free last year - although that MAY have been a Sunday I can't  remember. All I remember is standing there waiting to start with my teeth chattering.

That was the theme of most of the ride if I remember rightly ;)

It was indeed free last year, but the website currently indicates £1 per day.

Which website are you looking at?  The first one I found said £1, but the bus company and the council both claim it's free.

I tell you what - I am NOT paying £1 for a whole day's cycling. It's an outrage!

I may as well ride a Sp*rt*ve at these prices. I thought Audax was affordable. Sheesh.

I'm pretty sure that the parking at the P&R is free. It was last year because the council decided not to charge for any of the P&R car parks round Oxford.

I'm routechecking the ride this weekend so I'll check it then.

http://www.parkandride.net/oxford/html/oxford_parkandride.html, but I agree (having now looked further) that other websites indicate "no charge"

I've entered this one.  It will be my third time doing it, each separated by two years.  A very good early season leg stretcher and emminently fixeable.

The mad dash to the first control is always good fun.
The slog over the Cotswolds in the afternoon a different kind of fun.
The flat run into Oxford very welcome.
The garage grub in PearTree less so.
