I was half-listening to the radio with my mum once, and we were both sure that they announced the piece of music they had just played was performed by Izal Toiletroll.

Turned out to be Bernard d'Ascoli. :-[

Milk bottle holders/carriers that you left on the doorstop. They had a little dial that told the milkman how many pints you wanted.

Not putting milk in the fridge. I'm pretty sure that when I was very little no one kept milk in the fridge. They'd just leave it out and expect it to be used in day, or go bad.

Tiny blue straws that they made you drink lukewarm milk through at school.

Blotting paper.

Ink wells in desks.

Commerative coins. I got one from Diana & Charles's wedding. I haven't seen one since.

We have one of these.  It's really useful for putting your bottles, shoes and gloves in in the car when en route for an audax :)

We used it at the last house, where we had milk in bottles delivered.  Here it comes in cartons.

Again, we tend to leave the milk out all day here

Dial up modems.

I've still got one somewhere, and Lt. Col. Larrington (retd.) still connects to teh Intarwebs with one, though I think he may be considering the acquisition of broadbean.

Cassette tapes (although I understand that the only people who still use 'em in any quantity now are the polis)

You can still buy 'em in my local Sainsbury's.

Soda Stream machines

We still use soda streams (and bought a new one only last year)!

Lt. Col. Larrington (retd.) got a new one this summer...

Draft excluding snakes

Got one of them.  Well, technically it's a lizard.

Is quadrophonic sound still around?

Sort of, only now people with four ears call it "Dolby 5.1" ;D

Izal bum paper

Wandering round one of the local antique centres (it's a nice walk out there, and they have delicious cake in the cafe bit!) I saw that they were selling a roll of Izal.

Izal is still easy to buy. Bronco is the one that is sadly missed, along with the stuff from army camps marked "Government Property" on each sheet.

The 1960s tea towel holder - yes, the ones that looked like a brown eye.

I got a row of four of them to finish off my new kitchen this summer, and very useful they are too. EBay has them aplenty... And they even have some that exploit their very appearance.

I'm also old enough to remember when paedophiles were figures of fun.

There was an old bloke who lived in the village and people would warn their kids not to play near him or go into house.

He was just regarded as a sad dirty old man.

And the chewing-gum machines, where you got an extra packet when the arrow on the knob was pointing forward.

Ah, nostalgia's not what it used to be.  :(
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

...£1 notes ...

Still got them until relatively recently in Scotland. I haven't seen one for a while, though.

Still have them in London and in Cambridge and lots of other places.

However, they don't tend to be red boxes any more... :'(
