it was good to actually ride home, though I could have done without the close pass with lots of revs going up hill and past a pedestrian island.

Somewhere in Wokingham, or its surroundings, is a white VW golf on I think a 12 or 13 plate with it's left hand wing mirror folded in.

A lovely morning <repeat of previous commute posts>

A new PB! 27:10 to do 8.8 miles!

This is how the header of my spreadsheet looks now :)

Total   Av. Time   Av. Speed   Slowest   Fastest
582.6   00:51   12.72898148   7.68   19.55555556

I resurected the Claud Butler tank hybrid last night and rode it in this morning. No computer on it but it didn't half feel heavy and slow.

I'm impressed with your dedication to detail. That last decimal place of your speed measurements is equivalent to measuring your journey to work distance with a precision of about a particle of dust (16 microns). :)

Just ridden through Canterbury city centre.  I was the ONLY bike with lights - well after dark.  Old Bill were well in evidence, but taking no notice of the dozens of lightless cyclists around.  As an aside, bottle dynamo on the Brommie  is pretty useless.  "Dear Santa, please bring me a Schmidt"  :P

Sustrans chuggers were out again today - I hadn't seen them for a couple of weeks.

Aw.  I've only seen a Sustrans chugger once, while I was late for a train in Bristol.  Missed opportunity.

It might not be about the bike, but it sure as hell might be about the gearing.
74" is 2kph faster than 63".
There's more honking involved though, even in Suffolk.

My new commute is all good, I am enjoying it.  Twickenham->putney->kings road->whichever posh bit I am working in (Eaton Square at the moment).

It's pretty flat (one bridge, the one where Marc Bolan died).

There are a lot more cyclists than even my Chiswick->ken high street->posh bits old commute - it is pretty insane at times with the number of riders.
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

There must be a bridge across the Thames as well.
Getting there...

There is, two in fact, but I would consider putney and richmond bridges flat.

Even the one in Barnes where Marc Bolan died isn't exactly hilly.

Very very flat easy route. I like it.

Of course, of an evening, I have diverted home via Richmond park for some grimping with panniers full of laptop and toolkit.

Edited to add my second thoughts - Richmond bridge does have a hill on the way into town. But the surface is good so it feels less hill like.

A bit of a rant at a driver who felt that there was room for car and bike travelling in the same direction between two rows of parked cars on a minor suburban street and wondered why I yelled at him.

Claimed not to be in a hurry, though contraindicated by driving style  (there was room for me to move over - which I would have done - in a couple of car lengths).   ::-)

Not "Nice"  ;)

This is probably the last quiet commute of the year.  I have enjoyed the light traffic but this week every day the traffic has been increasing from very quiet on Tuesday to more and more. It's a shame because I have been completing my commute in around 1hr 10mins most days of the summer holidays.  This morning I only managed 1hr 15 mins.  On Monday I believe the schools will be back and traffic will be heavy in the morning plus the little jams at each of the three schools I pass so my commute time will push out to 1hr 20mins.

Indeed not.
You'll have to ride up a load of different hills instead.

Did Tina Turner sing River High Mountain Deep? I think not. Hills cannot therefore be deep. Please rephrase.

Heard (and then saw) the ice-cream boat down by the Millennium Bridge on the way home - sadly, an intervening stretch of water prevented me partaking in icy dairy-based treats. Managed to avoid the Sustrans chuggers, too ...

Reckon the nautical purveyor of frozen milk products needs to change his jingle to something more fit-for-purpose than Greensleeves, though - Captain Pugwash theme, perhaps?

I managed to miss a turn early on my ride home, because I was thinking about Other Things.
Dog only know how: my bike practically knows the way by itself.

I could have done a U-turn and gone my intended route, but I just continued the way I'd gone and took an alternate route, which is also quite nice.   It takes you through Fetteresso forest.   It's about 3k longer, but doesn't go over the big hill I usually go over.

Really enjoyed it.
I may do this a bit more often.

Had to deploy the "Emergency socks" from the little stash of emergency clothing from my locker.
Seems to happen about twice a year.
The only thing I've never forgotten is the bike.

(Must remember to replenish the stash tomorrow)
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Got to The Armoury and my weapon of choice had suffered a visitation.

Thank heavens that previously N+1 had been applied.
