Thanks Rostrutt that's useful to know.

In light of that can people who would like me to book them accommodation let me know as soon as possible please?

I am planning to go up from London on the Friday 27th and stay two nights although of course you don't have to do that. I am reliably informed that we can get a discount on groups of 6 or more although I don't know that we have that many who need accomodation.

Andrij, sorry I was in my usual catatonic FNRttC state for much of last night and hence didn't get to discuss this with you, but I hope you are still interested! And Regulator have you asked Mr R nicely?

Ishall be "waking him up nicely"  :o in an hour or so, so I'll ask him then...

Sadly, this is the weekend our daughter finishes Uni so we will be otherwise engaged.

Hi, this sounds like a lovely weekend and I would be interested- descriptions such as gentle and not fast guaranteed to attract my attention.  Hostelling is fine by me- if there's room, I'd love to come.
      Jane

Ooh I'd love you to come Jane.

Just waiting for the rest who've expressed interest (and anyone else) to confirm so I can get something booked.

I've enquired about hostel availability...disappearing fast! Prob won't manage to get a hostel for the Sat night but could do for the Friday.

So pleeeeease let me know if you want accommodation. Sorry to be a pest.

Of course there will still be option to join once I've booked something, you'd just have to sort out your own bed for the night should you need one.

i will probably be useing my bivvi bag as  it is the cheapest option i have  ;D
the slower you go the more you see

I would strongly recommend Sherigham and the Soap  and Cider in Wells

Right, I finally managed to get hold of some suitable reasonably priced accommodation. All of the YHA places were full but this place had room, and I think it looks quite cool, and have read good things about it in t'Grauniad before. No curfew.

http://www.deepdalefarm.co.uk/backpackershostel/index.html in Burnham Deepdale, 24 miles from Sheringham station.

We have an ensuite room for six booked, which works out to £23 each for both nights. Have stuck it on the credit card for now as they wanted payment in full. Breakfast not included but there is a café on site which looks reasonable. Andrij hasn't confirmed yet, but if he can't come it's no problem as booking a room for six would still be the most economical option (they don't do rooms for five).

There is also a campsite there, and tipis! They still have space available if anyone else wants to come and book their own accommodation.

Excellent.  Dates booked in my diary.  I'm unlikely to be able to get any time off on the Friday - so I may not arrive 'til late in the evening.

Okey dokey Reg.

If anyone can suggest a nice route from Sheringham station to Burnham Deepdale, that would be a very good start, seeing as the most direct route  (A149) is not pleasant.

Ideally I'd take a half day from work on the Friday to get going well before rush hour, but can be flexible. Jasper has said he'd like to meet in London and travel up together. Other Londoners (Jane?), let me know what you'd like to do.

It's about 25 miles from Sheringham to Burnham Deepdale... and about 22 miles from Kings Lynn to Burnham Deepdale.  I may see if I can get a 1/2 day on the Friday - but I have the Monday of that week off for the CTC Rally in York.

As Wowbagger helpfully pointed out upthread, rail tickets to Sheringham are only £12 return (although there is a change) whereas Kings Lynn is more like £25 with a railcard, and around £35 without. You need to go to the national rail website to see the Sheringham fares, they don't show up on thetrainline for some reason.

I need to keep costs down so am opting for Sheringham.

For minimal time on the A149, this is the way I'd go.

A few kms on the main road are unavoidable unless you want to go a long way out of the way. The short run to Weybourne isn't too bad really.

Nice pull up from Weybourne, then a nicely undulating route - certainly not flat.

And when you pass through Chelsea by Sea ( Burnham Market ) pop in to the Hoste Arms to use their loos.  Very Posh  ;) ;)

Mind out for all the Porsches, Bentleys, Jags , Astons ,etc etc.

And if you're lucky, Goosebeck will still be flowing through the village; it was when bazzerp and myself were passing through a few weeks back.

Goosebeck is a strange phenomenon - a stream that literally "comes and goes". Sometimes it doesn't flow for years.

The weekend denizens of Burnham (up) Market complained about it recently. They wanted Goosebeck piped under the village as driving through it was making their precious tin boxes dirty. FFS  ::-).

I would love to come and meet you guys in Sheringham and cycle back to Deepdale with you - it's all my local area so I know it pretty well. Chris's route is the way I'd go, though I might be tempted to miss out the A149 completely and go via Upper Sheringham, but that's just me being picky!

The added advantage of staying at Deepdale is the Deepdale Cafe, run by my mate Lin, which is fab. I'll let her know you'll be in the area if you like.

If I can come and meet you, please let me know when you'll all arrive and I'll sort myself out.

*blush* Thank you Peter!

Thanks for the route suggestions (and Goosebeck sounds interesting). And the posh loo recommendation!

I'd be delighted to be guided by a local, Soaplady, thank you very much. I need to decide with the other Londoners which train we'll be on as we'll have to make cycle reservations.

Sorry for the delay - I'm definitely coming along for this event.

I may be able to get out of work a little early, but not sure if early enough to get my bike on a train, may end up arriving 'late' along with Regulator.

I dunno, you and your 'escorting'... ;) Pleased to hear you will be coming along. Jane is finding out how early she can leave work; once I know that I'll let you know what train we'll be on in case you can make it.

Teethgrinder, being teethgrinder, is cycling all the way so may arrive latest of all, but apparently there is no problem with arriving late at this place, I checked. As long as you are quiet. They sound quite firm on quietness.
