I did not specify how many subjects are studied at A Level as it varies. Three is a norm, but many people study more. I do not believe universities are allowed to demand more than three as an entry requirement, though they can specify minimum grades.
Minimum grades in certain subjects. Reading University were not interested in Engineering Drawing for a Mathematics degree, nor were any of the others I applied to.

"a very small number of subjects" is still undefined.

Usually three, sometimes four.

To age 16 I studied 10 subjects to 'O' level grade, then specialised aged 16-18 in Maths, Physics & Chemistry.  My school also allowed one to enter the 'General Studies' A-level which as it sounds is a broad and non-taught exam - a cross between general knowledge, reasoning and ability to think.

So I have 4 'A' levels, 3 in academic subjects.

Thanks for the explanation. Sounds like the British schoolsystem is hard to compare with the Dutch, but "the highest level in secondary school, a qualification to enter university" fits.
Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. It has been too many days since I have ridden through the night with a brevet card in my pocket...

I can spot physics "A" level students by their handwriting.  True.

Not mine. You'd not be able to read it ;)

We had a lecturer at university who wrote with his right hand and erased with his left as he went.

A preference for black ink and very small writing is what gives it away.

I do of course have Physics A level, Nuffield Syllabus, so I have to keep going back to Audaxes in the vain hope that one day the experiment might give the right result.

My Baccalaureat subjects (in order of weight) were Mathematics (5), Physics (5), Biology (3), French (3), English (2), German (1), Philosophy (1), History and Geography (1 each?), Sports (1) and a technological subject (1).

I have audaxed in the past. Don't have the time anymore so like Hellymedic I did not vote.

It would appear to me that audax does have a high number of technically and science-minded people.

It sounds familiar to me I think I have the same with programming instead of German!

No.  (But no-one can prove it, least of all me.)

Unfortunately, at my school the Physics master flatly refused to teach anyone who was also taking Music.  >:(
Despite the two subjects being quite closely related.

3 'A' Levels including PAM (Physics and Maths). Then General Studies, which in my day wasn't counted as a 'A' Level.  It's only in the softer subsequent years that it was considered an 'A'. So I could argue that I took 5 subjects at 'A'. ;)

Oh and 98 in my Cycling Proficiency.  ;)

English lit, French and History A level, plus a Latin AS.

Physics was the only subject I got a B in at GCSE, thus cocking up my straight-A-fu.

Should I rescind my AUK membership?

Depends when you took it - if it was over 20 years ago you are OK.  ;)

Only ten years ago, but Radio 4 this year claimed that A levels ten years ago were a true test of intellect and analysis, not like the crummy ones these days.

Mind you, I think Radio 4 might be losing its marbles, because it said exactly the same thing ten years ago.

I didn't get a Physics A level at school.  So I went back to college at 24 and did a year's Access course.  Maths, further maths and physics to get a place on Mechanical Engineering degree.

So I voted "yes to both"  :)
