Looks like this may be my best option. Does anyone know what Uxbridge Travelodge are like about people turning up on bikes?

Don't know about Uxbridge in particular but I've never had a problem with a bike at a Travelodge in the (thinks) 20 nights I've stayed in them.

Ah, I'll give it a go and just take a decent lock with me anyway. I can always leave that attached to something at the start for collecting later. Might have a vehicle anyway.

Does anyone know if you can leave your car in the (pay and display) car park overnight - or if there is anywhere nearby one can park?

I would just like to point out that there is no connection between Bianchi Boy and Baby Bianchi.

Is this a fast route ? How long do people usually take ? Is 24 hours enough ?

I was back at 3:15am last year. My fastest ever. If I can do that - you should be fine.

The ride is rolling in parts. There are a couple of signature climbs that you will notice. The "OMG I'm so far from home at 5pm" feelings are probably SOP for an OAB 400.

But don't underestimate the desperate feeling you may have Saturday evening at Membury services. It probably reflects the place more than the occasion  ;D.

Edit: Is it fast? Tuggo was back at the start before the organiser a couple of years ago, even though he was hampered by an extra wheel...

21.14 for me - and I am just a slow steady plodder - but not wasting too much time at controls.

Considering it.

If I leave home at 4am I can cycle the 40km to the start and be back home by 10am on Sunday.

Will have to get on the bike though. Sum total of 56km so far this year...

Bicycle Path - SA400 at Bikely.com

(May not be entirely accurate but that was my GPS route for the SA400 when I did it.)

I don't make my routes public so it wouldn't have made a difference.

Oh; I thought if you ticked Private / Under Construction you needed to be logged in, didn't realise it would still be public via the link,

If this is indeed the case I shall make my Audax routes Private; only linked via the AUK calendar page; might stop people copying them and turning them into sportives  :-\

this is a ride that is very dear to my heart as it completed my first SR,

Ditto - I've done it twice (once with Martin once with PeterT) and have entered again this year.  I love the ride over the bridge from Chepstow and up to Wooton Bassett.  Always a treat.

Having received four hours on Saturday of hard sell ridden with the organiser, I have now posted my entry...

I'm half-thinking of entering the Cardiff-start version of this, and riding against the flow...

Is that for the slightly pricey Buckingham Blinder?

In the meantime, looks like there might be a bit of a peleton to the start from the Uxbridge Travelodge.
