I wonder if someone famous lives in Queens Road, Kingston, and asked for a media blackout? I was proceeding along out of Richmond Park, checking out a route for Monday, when all of a sudden, it goes black with a comment that the image is no longer available. It's not the case that the camera car didn't cover that section, as it all shows up OK when you hover the little man over the road.
Very strange.
Very possible, although another explanation is that someone has used the 'report a problem' link and whilst it's sitting in the queue waiting for a human to review it they simply blank out the section. Especially if they select the "Inappropriate content" button.
There's a section of the road next to us (St Simon's Avenue, SW15) that has completely gone missing, it now claims that the car hasn't even driven on that section of road. The whole road used to be there uninterrupted with nothing strange, but now there's a section missing either side of one of the houses in the middle (these are monster £3m+ houses). I'm guessing the images had too much personal content for on of the residents, so until Google redo the road they can't have any pictures within a certain range of the house in question. The person who lives there isn't famous; I'm guessing diplomat or similar as the cars have various US related stickers in them (Georgetown University, plus some Obama ones). All of the shots were done at the same time (the same cars are there on the road) so it's not a case of patching together two different runs.
