And for my 61st birthday I got....
« on: 27 March, 2010, 09:19:10 pm »
..my bike nicked.  >:(

My fault.  Idiot turned up at pub for a birthday drink with the Cadbury lads wot I drink with and found I'd forgotten my keys.  So I thought it would be OK to wheel it round to the back and park it by the kitchen door where the staff sit an have a fag etc.
OK.  It could have been worse.  It was my pub bike.  Until a couple of days ago it sported my new Barley, but thankfully that got moved to the fixie as I'm now commuting on that.
Thank god it wasn't the Mercian.  (Although I'd probably not have taken such a stupid chance with that.)

OK kids.  Just don't do it.  If you've forgoten your keys, don't even think about it.  Go home.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Hmm.  I've searched everywhere but I don't seem to have taken any pictures of it.
(Seems I never loved it that much) Bog standard 60s/70s road frame.  Resprayed mid/light green.  No name.  Toe clips and straps (as a pub bike should).
Those silly 60's short ali mudguards.  Not bar tape, but solid black foam handle bar covers.  DT shifters.

You wouldn't get 40 quid on fleabay.

It may have just been ridden home (or joyridden) then dumped.  We had one night of bike "theft" in our village last year; most of the bikes were taken from front gardens (!) and ridden one or two streets away by pissed teenagers, then parked.  AFAIK everyone got them back undamaged.

Was this the Country Girl? Is there a chance it was someone who's regular? Maybe if you offered an amnesty ("I'm going to turn off the lights for a minute" kind-of-thing)?

Either that, or set the Finnegan girls on them. :o

Yes I've thought about that.  I'll be riding around Selly Oak studenty area tomorrow morning to see if it's been dumped anywhere.

Pooh and knickers  :(

Hope you find it unharmed.

Happy birthday for yesterday, are you sure the staff didn't just hide your bike in the cellar to prevent you riding while under the influence  ;)

Now this would never have happened if it was a track frame with 100" fixed. You'd find it just a little way up the road. ;D

Is it away from the public gaze?

Always the chance that some scummy employee rang a mate to say there's a bike going here if you're quick enough.

The bike was "joy-ridden".  But only in the rear car park.  A member of staff found it and locked it in the bottle store.
On my tour of the area on Sunday morning I inluded a search around the deepest jungle of the far end of the car park, but of course it had already been moved.  I didn't think to go into the pub and ask again.

So, when I turned up for the quiz last night I was somewhat surprised when they asked me how I was going to ride two bikes home.  :D
