I think I've just been 'brushed'  :o

It seems to be the 'brushing scam' - I've received an unsolicited package containing a really carp plastic game. The package came addressed to me, tax paid from Germany, but peeling back several layers of labels its origin is clearly China.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-54055669

It's odd because it doesn't seem to originate from Amazon and it was delivered by Royal Mail, I've got no notifications or request for a review  (yet). I suspect it's an eBay seller as I do buy a lot of rubbish off eBay and rarely interact with Amazon.

I'm sure my grandchildren will get 30 seconds of fun out of it (and then it will break).

Both my assistant (who has put down a few pads before) and the driver were unimpressed by my not having a power float (yeah, not having a car makes that a bit difficult).

Crikey, whatever became of the thick plank held vertically with a bod at either end?

I remember being roped into laying a drive like that by my dad BITD

I got one of those a couple of weeks ago. They don't ask you to write the review, they do it themselves!
As advised on Amazon's website I did report it but they didn't seem massively interested. I'm not convinced they even logged it.

Not intended for discussion, as POBI is that way ↓↓↓ but others may find this analysis by Alastair Campbell of Johnson and all he reprsents interesting, even if it is, by his own admission, longer on analysis than answers.

Proud dad moment - daughter got accepted for a masters in Child Psychology (a funded vocational course with the NHS and only 24 places across Scotland) and has been voted Barnardo's volunteer of the year. Only downside - she applied for Fife, Tayside and D&G and got D&G so she will be moving 'back home'. :)

The gammonati absolutely HATE this year's Christmas ad from John Lewis  ;D

(Ruined a good song, though, as usual)

I've only seen it silently, on my tablet, so wasn't aware of the song.  I think its lovely, and touching, but then I'm a soppy old romantic.

Today I've done my last exam invigilating session at the local secondary school. I handed my notice in a couple of weeks ago.

I'd stopped enjoying doing it, and the stresses of family mean that I need more 'head space' and this is a small step in simplifying life.
It gave me an insight into how schools operate and reminded me of what curious creatures teenagers are.

I'm glad I've done it, but won't miss it.

There are so many threads this idiot could go in:

Quote
A terminally ill man who bared his behind to a speed camera van says he was "gobsmacked" to be arrested at home...

...He decided to target the speed camera van on Stourbridge Road in his home town after he had been "caught by them a couple of times for silly speeds like 35mph in a 30 zone and it always bugged me"...

...He said about six officers arrived at his home a short time later asking to be let in and when he refused, his garden gate was kicked in and the officers got him to the ground to cuff him.

He said his wife filmed the "frightening" incident during which Mr Meekcom told the officers he was terminally ill and would struggle to breathe. He said he also suffered a blow to the head.

"I did not resist arrest once and I felt the response was completely disproportionate in the circumstances," he said...

...West Mercia Police spokesman said officers received a report of indecent exposure on Stourbridge Road at about 13:00 GMT on 5 November and located a person of interest in Coiey Close.

"A 55-year-old man from Kidderminster was arrested on suspicion of public order offences and released on bail."

Yes, the coppers were heavy-handed when they made their arrest, but what did the twat think was going to happen? Does being diagnosed with a terminal illness give you carte blanche to act like a twat and break the law? He's right about one thing. If the posted limit is 30mph then it *is* silly to do 35.

There's a 5 kph tolerance in France. It used to be 10 kph until they realized that speedometers have got a lot more accurate since 1935.

Were they heavy handed?

He claims he wasn't resisting arrest, but refused to let them into his garden.

Very easy to imagine him 'not resisting arrest' but refusing to put his hands together to be cuffed (why did they feel it necessary to do that? Him refusing to accompany them to the police station maybe?) could easily result in him tripping.

They might have been heavy-handed, but I suspect he is a bolshy sod who told them where to go and refused to follow instructions.
