Brompton "cable fender disc" - where does it go?
« on: 07 July, 2010, 06:17:00 am »
Apparently it's needed if you take off the mudguards, so I bought one - but I have no idea what to do with it.

It looks like this:

Brompton Cable Fender Disc QCFDISC

(I also have the mudguard-less front hook)

It goes on the LH fork blade.  See here.

It stops the brake cable rubbing on the tyre and rubbing the fork paint off.

Aha!

I'm going to reassemble the Brom without mudguards temporarily to see how I get on with it; I've never ridden it ona  wet road anyway.  It'll also be stripped down for the BWC.

With the ti goodies too that is going to be one light Brommie...I reckon you'll be under 30lb!

Under 22lb, I should hope.  It was 25lb with Brooks saddle and full lighting gear.

27lb (just had a weight in).....6 speed though, only thing in my favour is no rack.  Too lardy really, considering the distance I carry through the office and up stairs each day.  I should've stuck the original game plan and bought a 2 speed.  The next one will be the ti version for me I think, if I'm still commuting/employed next year.

I'm guessing you have SS wheels?  Wonder what the weight difference is

No, 3-speed wheels, but the old 3-speeds are slightly lighter than the current ones, even in the old steel shells.  Put an old mechanism in a new alloy shell and it's considerably lighter.

The biggest weight saving comes from SPDs, lighter tyres and a Ti seatpost (which was a reasonably good value upgrade compared to the Ti frame parts).
