From one place to same place
« on: 10 June, 2008, 07:18:58 am »
Maladict(a)'s thread about a circular tour from Tyneside generates an idea about a journey between two places with the same name.
Newcastle-under-Lyme(Staffordshire) to Newcastle-upon-Tyne springs to mind.
Any other suggestions.

Or even Newcastle Emlyn.  I was there on Saturday.  :)
Château Neuf, anyone?  :)

I know there are lots of Newports.  What's the most common town name?
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

How about Tynemouth (North Shields) to Teignmouth (Devon)?

It's over 300 miles as the crow flies though...
Actually, it is rocket science.

Blackpool to Dublin. Warning: May involve a ferry.

I only discovered a few weeks ago that Dublin translates as Blackpool.

From Fleetwood? That's about 6 miles then!

There is also a Pwll Du on the Gower.

Come on all you Scottish yACFrs, there simply must be an equivalent of Blackpool in Scotland. Something involving Dhu? Then the grand place to place to place to place tour of the United Kingdom will be on.

Newport, Fife to Newport, Gwent isn't going to be far off that.

That seems danderously close to "taking one step forwrd" in terms of becoming an organiser :P

And if you do the quadrilateral trip including Essex and the IoW, that's a fair old tour.

I also has the ring of "that's a challenge" about it. It could be done as a relay perhaps. Is this the seed of something growing?

If I counted correctly there are 24 Newports according to streetmap, and that doesn't include Stations, Farms, Bays, Sands or Pagnells.

Or to Newcastle in Northern Ireland. You'd need your swimmers.

Nah. He'll want Camborne (Cornwall) to Cambourne (Cambridge).

(I will conquer that route down to Cornwall at some point).

How about Scorton in North Yorks to Scorton Cabus near Lancaster?

Or a tour of the Middletons. Manchester, Leeds, Teesdale etc. etc.

There are three Swindons within a day's cycling distance of each other.

Whitchurches are a good bet.

Last year there was a "Tye Green Challenge" 160km Audax that visited the 6 different villages called "Tye Green" in and around Essex.

Audax

Don't think it's running this year.

Similarly there are a few Castletons spread through the country.

I haven't ridden it yet but I have planned a 300km randonee route from Newstead to Newstead with a control at Newstead.
