My biggest race of the year and the one I am least prepared for - Scottish winter training and all that

Looks like it will be on the BBC as well..

Yes, it was a good night's entertainment.

I loved the flashing lights in the Devil, it was like some kind of gameshow - "Rider 17, you have been eliminated, please leave the track!"

It does take a lot of the fun out of it - the "who me, not me guv" element.

I reality, I can see the point, but since I rode the track seriously they (the UCI, men in blazers) have sanitized sprinting, dropped the big motors and tandems (too riskyno doubt), and now we have riders controlled by flashing lights. What next - put the riders on turbo-trainers instead just in case they fall off?

Ouch!

That looked painful.

Kinda puts woosy footballers rolling around the pitch clutching a grazed knee into perspective. Good work Sir Chris to keep out of that mess .

Shame about the faulty derny. Hehe...

I think the Kiwi seemed to lose it on his own.

Edit: no the replay shows otherwise.

We decided Niblett should have won everything, merely for being named as a Bar Snack.

Er... three pints of lager, and two packs of Nibletts ploise.

The NZ guy almost kept it together, but rode a few meters straddling the top tube... painful. Kudos to him for crossing the line though.

And Awang had his front wheel removed by Niblett avoiding the kiwi.

Most people, when they leave the track, don't take it with them.

The BC warned viewers who were squeamish to look away.

Thing is that he had crashed, remounted, sprinted past the pole to get the bronze and then finally got stretchered off.

Epic!

Do they repair the track there and then? Body filler?

Looks nasty. :(

That's going to make a right mess if they try and pull it straight out. My guess is he'll have to have it surgically removed which will just about rule him out for the Worlds next month.

I was thinking that. When I was a kid I pulled out a massive bit of tree (or rather my mother did) that had gone in pretty deep (but not all the way through like that!) and it left half of it behind. Time to go to hospital to have it properly removed....

Ferkin 'ell. That's one double-hard bastard!

I assume he'll just be hacksawing the protruding bits off, sanding the ends level and continuing in further events.

The crash is now on Youtube if you're interested - http://www.youtube.com/v/rltqF-HT9iU&rel=1.

Glad that Hoy had already deployed the afterburners and was clear of the carnage.
