lateral play

i have some lateral play in my rear (fixed) wheel. The wheel is tight in the droputs so I'm guessing it's a hub (Surly)/bearing problem. Any tips as to the problem/solution before I look more closely?

they're cartridge bearings, so if there is play chances are they'll need replacing - no adjustment possible.
