I could see the picture earlier, but now I can't. No matter; out of interest, where might one acquire such a fine piece of headgear?

Apart from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, you mean?

Well, I'm not sure even the notorious Canadian politeness extends to letting people pinch your headgear...

Well, I'm not sure even the notorious Canadian politeness extends to letting people pinch your headgear...

So failing them, try the British Boy Scouts and British Girl Scouts (an early splinter group from what went on to become the Scout Association)

Linky to a news item about buying hats: http://bbsandbgs.org.uk/news.php#ni3.  Use the Contact Us page to order one. I got an email from the head honcho, who sent me a pro forma invoice. Bank transfer and the hat arrived a couple of days later.  The hats are made by Olney http://www.olney-headwear.co.uk/ but they don't seem to show them on their website, so it might be an exclusive deal with the BBS.  The Scout Association also do a lemon squeezer hat, but it's rubbish not very good when compared with the BBS one. The hat band is thin pvc (despite the website saying it's leather) and it felt like a toy.

So are you a scouter? That's a good price for a lot of hat even if you're not.

What an impressive website! They appear to have found someone who is a cross between Woolly and Wowbagger to model their hats.

BN:   Our 14 year old washing machine stopped working at the weekend.

GN:   Diagnosis says that it's just the motor - probably worn brushes.

BN:   Bosch no longer recognises our model number.

GN:   Ransom Spares does and has the part necessary for a princely £7.25.

Fingers crossed that new brushes gives us a few more years of washing.

Good luck with that.

We had an ancient Bosch washing machine that we got second hand and used for a further six or seven years, it must have been 20 years old and apart from the occasional blockage of the drain hose, worked faultlessly. Had to leave it in Holland as it was left hand drive.

GN: I have seen a job advertised that I could most definitely do: Technical writing experience in CAD software - yes; Swedish language knowledge - most definitely

BN: It's via an agency & I fear my vintage almost certainly will rule me out of their candidates

GN: I've managed to find the company with a bit of digging - right up my street and I'll approach them directly

BN: It's too far to commute by bike

GN: There's a direct train that takes me within 3 miles, albeit with a 1-hour journey

GN: freed up one and a half alcove shelves in the front room by having a tidy.

BN: a sweep of the other rooms filled all of this space with books, as well as taking the bedside to-read pile to vertiginous levels...

BN: Letter in an envelope with a window.
GN: It's not anything I have to pay.
GN: It's telling me someone's paid me.
BN/GN: It's an invoice I sent out in 2013.
GN: It's in euros so I end up with more in pounds now than if they'd paid four years ago!
BN: It was only a very small amount.

BN. Running the sound desk for an 8 hour hard core concert and I don't appreciate hard core music.
GN. It's in a brewery.
More GN. The drink is free for staff.
BN. I can't drink because I'm running the sound desk.

GN kitchen works are going well.

BN boiler is playing silly beggars, new board so far and still indicating fault. Luckily we have a gas fire and immersion heater.

Bad News: I forgot to pack my Bluetooth speaker condemning me to tinny music from my phone's speaker.

Good news: The hotel I'm staying in has them as standard in the room

Better News: It's a really good speaker!

GN, I saw an amusing video on Twitter with tigers chasing a drone.

BN, on checking it's filmed in a notorious "tiger farm" in China   :(                 http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-02-24/darker-side-to-video-of-tigers-taking-down-drone/8299490

Good news.  The 20 mph signs which have been going up on all roads in the village were uncovered the other  day.  The speed limit is now in force.

Bad news.  A car just passed me doing at least 40.
