Not a problem report, but a fix report.
System : Fedora 14, Gnome desktop.
I noticed today that if I clicked on places > home directory (or any other directory) it would open in VLC, rather than opening Nautilus.
A quick google shows this is a common problem, and the fix is easy:
Go to ~.local/share/applications and edit mimeapps.list
there will be a line that looks thus:
inode/directory=vlc.desktop;
comment it out and Bob is indeed your Aunty's live in lover!
