Leg shaving tribulations
« on: 01 July, 2008, 10:08:48 am »
Decided to shave legs as this will force me to start riding harder, make the muscles look bigger/more defined  and give a general impresion that I am in fact a serious racing cyclist not to be messed with and should be respected.  Hopefully it distracts attention from my otherwise saggy old body.

With shaved legs it is like raising the stakes - one is simply not allowed to ride slowly.

Also of course it is a bit of a pervy thing to do on a boring Sunday PM.

All well on the lower end of legs but woe is me I have now got shaving rash on my thighs! huge red spots and v. sore. (There will be no pics of this).  I am resorting to liberal application of surgical spirits to try and calm it all down.

Shaving - is it really worth it?

Nope.

I whinge enough about having to do my face.  No way would I bother doing anything else.

But surely that's cos you have scars, innit.

How do the ladies shave their legs and not end up with nasty shaving rashes then?

Delighted to have found yet another use for gaffer tape though - natures miracle material I reckon.

Aesthetically I must say that I am very pleased with the overall look of the shaved leg/cycle shorts - definite improvement on the hairy pipe cleaner look. Now for some fake tan to get that proper 'Euro-style' look.

I only shave to the knee as the hair above my knees is very fine and soft.

Why surgical spirit?

Was the razor clean?

I shave in the shower.  I spend about five minutes in there first to soften up my skin and then I use a body buffer thing to lather up my legs with a splodge of moisturising shower gel.

I then use a triple-blade razor very carefully.

Mind you - blokes generally have much rougher hair than bumpy chaps do.  You may need to try depilatory creams or a waxing session instead.

From what I gather down at my club, the other issue if you've got quite a pelt is where do you stop shaving...?

I shave in the shower and use shaving oil but not under running water, wet the Mach 3 after each stroke, then moisturise afterwards.

I tend to do mine in the bath or the sink.  If in the bath I use a body scrub first and then apply shaving foam and raise leg in the air and use the razor with caution but not too much caution.  I change the blade every week.  I never get any sort of rash.  I then lather with oodles of moisturiser, normally a rehydrating one from Dermalogica.

Or if I don't want a bath I pop my legs in the sink and repeat the above

One has to go all the way so the hair doesn't poke through ones shorts, looks stupid. As for the nether regions well I am not totally bald, what do you think I am ? a porn star ?

Enjoying this thread immensely! Definitely a bit kinky - especially the shower shaving stories...

I did lower legs first up to shorts but there was no way those gorilla fur bermudas were going to work - I would look bizarre in a swimming trunks situation - so went all the way up.  I think in hindsight a sort of 'fur trunks' might have been adviseable but I was carried away by the enthusiasm of it all.  I did restrain from the brazilian as that might be hard to explain at the gym!

I will admit that I was so pleased with the overall effect (before the horrible rash emerged this morning) that I was starting to think about getting rid of arm, back and chest hair too! But unfortunately I can't think of a sportsmanlike rationale for that yet...

Make sure you shave in the direction of hair growth too, going 'against the grain' is a sure fire way to soreness  :)

I'm impressed Annie - these days it takes all my effort to raise my feet to a washing bowel on the floor.

Hey, I get my legs up to the sink.  Mind you, I don't have a shower (still!).

Bumpy legs... get a sharper blade, get yer pins properly wet, and practice.  ;)

Pelt-lines?  Up the thigh to the hip on the outside and a vee down (the "hairy boxers" line looks ridiculous) and for the back, down to the arse-crack.  Lower if the Veet runs :o

Random trivia #113: She-Hulk shaves her legs with an adamantium razor made by Reed Richards.
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

furry shorts for me.

A good shave once or twice week in the shower. A good set of Gillette blades and normal shaving cream. I go against the grain up to the knee and downward on the thighs as the skin is more sensitive there.

I can't recall why I started shaving. Most likely to be caused by curiosity. Not because I want to faster, or for the after ride massages (I wish...) or to ease wound cleaning. I carry on to shave cause it feels and looks good and my wife likes it.

What's kinky about shaving in the shower?  ???

For good reasons why you should always shave in the shower, ask any teenage girl.  Everyone's tried dry shaving in their bedroom, and everyone remembers the itchy, red, spotty result.

I shave my legs in the shower when I remember to do it, which isn't very often because the hair on my legs only grows on my shins, and is fine and fair so it doesn't really show.  A good lather of shower gel and a Ladyshave works fine.

I hate you 'fine and fair' lot.   :P

My sister is a natural blonde and never has to worry about such things.

I really do find waxing easier than shaving and veer between getting it done at the local beauty school by a student (quite cheap), doing it myself (cheaper still, but I do have a tendency to flick hot wax about) or getting out the epilator if regrowth is not yet too bad and I can stand it (almost free).

Why don't blokes wax? It's loads less hassle and lasts ages.

Mind you, think the girls in the place I go to would have kittens if a man walked in for waxing.
