Not the one from the Bond film  :hand:

I thought I'd ask for tips on the little bits and bobs people take that one might not have thought, or be aware of- so list away

Sorry - I can only list those things I forget to take.

I nearly always forget that the light on my bike is a dynamo one so yes I should take a separate torch.  ::-)  And last time out I forgot my toothbrush.  Thankfully it was a well sorted campsite with a shop selling toothbrushes.  They sold torches too, but such awful ones I coped with the light on my mobile phone instead.

Teapot, essential if you're a miffie.

Okay, given my recently confessed enthusiasm for adhesives, I have to ask...?

I confess to having a long standing enthusiasm for adhesives :-[.
So what goes on here?
Outside of the classroom prit-stik is mostly c@rp -  aka thickly congealed PVA.

One of those titchy LED lanterns that mountain warehouse sell for a fiver. Doesn't pack a huge amount of light but just enough. I clip it to the tent inner by the entrance, and leave it there when I pack away so I don't have to worry about losing it.

It was mostly crap in the classroom too, except in geography, when you threw the open tube so it stuck to the ceiling above the teacher's desk, where it would stay for an hour or two...

I'll have you know that PVA School Glue is most excellent for fixing clear plastic parts onto Airfix / plastic model kits, whereas polystyrene cement makes clear parts rather cloudy.

Awesome. But I didn't have in mind building Airfix kits whilst out camping, unless it rains constantly then I may reconsider.

Good stuff so far

A couple of small clothes pegs or bulldog clips.  Handy for clipping stuff to guylines to dry, or clipping stuff to the inside to hang up, etc...

If I had a baby elephant, it could help me wash the car. If I had a car.

a very thin 8 foot square tarpaulin, and a load of string.  Packs up fairly small and great for an extra groundsheet to help stop dragging mud into the tent, having lunch under if it's windy or raining, or covering the bikes with to keep them cosy.

A tiny, light umbrella[1] can be remarkably useful in a downpour!

I also take a tiny combined salt, pepper and paprika dispenser which I think I once found in a Christmas cracker (and I take a half-used pot of Marigold Bouillon on longer tours). A bit of seasoning can make such a difference to the quality of camp cooking.

And a tiny tube of handcream is a little luxury which makes me very happy when camping.   Along with an sleep-mask and ear plugs.

Finally, not really a nick-nack, but a helpful tip: always make sure to peg out all your guys, even if the weather looks unthreatening. It will reduce the need for [1].  :-[

Prit Stik?

I keep a diary when I'm cycle camping. I stick in lots of stuff - ferry tickets, shopping receipts, beer bottle labels...

Those books are pretty much my most treasured possessions.
They wouldn't be the same without the Prit Stik additions.

They are fantastic, Gordy.  A blog just doesn't have the same "milk" factor.

Sachets of vinegar for forrin parts. Chips with mayo is just wrong!
Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

They *are* nice gordy. We keep diaries, which eventually make it into blog type form when we get home, but we've never stuck anything in them. (although I do have a 'Seal deal' NZ DoC leaflet in my NZ tour diary, cos it is cute).

It can be quite salutary to read them again.
Trips that I look back on as glorious, sunny, mile-bashing jaunts often weren't.  ::-)

Edited: While we're on nick nacks, I'd better add - a small pair of craft scissors with plastic handles. They are for cutting and trimming stuff before I do the Prit Stik thing.

Also good to keep in your first aid kit, for treating wasp or nettle stings.

Off topic, but... Heresy, it's the best way to eat chips. Actually, satay sauce is even better. :)

Those plastic clips that close bags up. They are really useful for when you buy a bag of something - rice, pasta, crisps, salad - and don't use up all of it at once.
